I've done so much searching and most of it returns a comparison between Napa Platinum filters and Fram ultra's. I am seeking the answer to a question of... What is the difference between the Napa platinum's and gold's? Is it something like the platinum's have full synthetic fibers and the gold's are blends? I really like the Wix filters but im curious about the Napa's.

Also, I have been running the P1's because of the efficiency of the filters, but is the difference between them and the Wix that big? Sorry if I sound like a moron, but i'm still trying to learn the whole filter world.

The Napas are made by Wix. The Napa Gold and Napa Platinum are both great filters, The Gold is a cellulose blend and the Platinum used synthetic wire backed media, a good filter for extended drains. Wix will be less restrictive than the Purolator. Wix are well made filters.

I wonder why the Wix XP uses the top bypass valve and the regular Wix uses the up front bypass? They both use the coil spring on the dome end. Why does the top of the line filter use a "not as good" bypass? I know both work fine, but I was wondering about this.

Many top Wix filters use a thread end bypass, which many consider desirable (Ford and Chrysler engineers for example). I think what you are referring to as an "up front" bypass is the combo ADBV/bypass valve Wix has started using. Combo valves are not particularly well thought of.

KC - he's talking about the bypass valve located in the dome end on the Platinum. You can see it in the exploded view in the video posted above at the 25 second mark.

That's what I was talking about.

Many on the web have preached how great the up front bypass is and how its better than the dome end. Heck, even Wix uses it in their "normal" filters. Now these XP filters don't use it? I wonder if the XP filters need the extra media that the up front bypass displaces.

I'm not trolling, I just find it interesting. :-)

I can't seem to get a Wix ADBV with a thread end bypass to work right anyway, maybe they are giving up on them. They probably cost more to make as well.

Motorcraft sure doesn't have any problem with it.
