Difference between di-ester and polyol-ester

What's the difference. I'm assuming that there is one since diester oils(Amsoil Compressor oil) are comparable in price to PAOs. I've never seen the price of a polyol-ester based oil, but I understand that it is much more expensive.

Di- meaning 2 in greek terms.

Polyol containing usually severalalcoholic hydroxyl groups
Basically is sounds like the chemicals you would find in any of your synthetic lube. for high thermal stability
