The term "polyol esters" is short for neopentyl polyol esters which are made by reacting monobasic fatty acids with polyhedric alcohols having a "neopentyl" structure. In this application, the oil is expected to flow at -54 C, pump readily at -40 C, and withstand sump temperature approaching 200 C with drain intervals measured in years. Only polyol esters have been found to satisfy this demanding application.

Interesting read. Add bypass filtration and you're looking at a great solution for extended drains.

I'm not big on additives. It would be interesting to get feedback from people who have actually used their products.

I was suspicious that they are actually approved rather than recommended, so I verified that it is NOT on the MB 229.5 approval list here: MB 229.5 List . Not cool of them.
 
RLI, inc. is another racing lube company that blends with these esters too. I don't fly with turbine engines anymore, nor do I race. So I'll just stick to my diester, lanolin ester, polyol ester blended Auto-Rx for now.
