After a good initial impression, I have to say I did not get my money's worth out of the Amsoil.

After wrecking the TL, I was told it needs a new rack and pinion. So after a month of use, it's all being drained and refilled with the factory stuff. Just venting here. It's probably not Amsoil's fault I hit a curb lol.

This was actually my biggest fear with running expensive oils in the engine and trans. If totalled the car before 200,000 miles I feel like I wasted my money.

You hit a curb so hard it knocked the rack out? Did it bend any suspension parts? I hit a curb recently and bent the tie rod and the strut and loosened the rack up a bit, but not enough to replace it. Sucks cause now the steering is not as tight, but a new steering rack is worth more than my car.

Hit a curb may have been an understatement. New subframe, trans mounts, axle, windshield, lower A-arm, rack, rims, and other little things.

I had a complete brake failure, as in the ABS kicked in even though I was barely braking and the road was dry and clean. It was, however a washboard surface and I think it flat out tricked the ABS. I'll be driving with the ABS fuse pulled until I figure out what happened for sure.

Wow, that sucks. I hear you on the expensive fluids though. I had Specialty Formulations 75w-90 in my car and had to have an axle replaced. They refilled with [censored] dino 80w-90 molasses. The SF fluid only had about 10K on it, so I was out 40 bucks from that.

I feel your pain. After carefully maintaining my daughters 2002 CRV that I got a great deal on ($4-5k under market). Some idiot piled into her and totalled it after she only drove it 30,000 miles. It had 80k total and was in mint condition. I had planned to drive it to 250k.

But that is just tough luck. I still believe in planning to keep a car 150k minimum. So syn oils are still in my maintenance regimen.

Could have been a faulty wheel speed sensor causing your ABS to go wacky. I know when my sensor was on the way out, my ABS would engage even when I would just gently brake on a flat surface, almost causing me to not be able to stop. But who knows, my car's practically ancient compared to the TL, maybe they use a different sensor system. Sorry to hear about the car man.

Washboard is infamous for tricking ABS. This is one of the reasons I dont really like the system. It sees slip coming off one of the humps and reacts just in time for your tire to be going back up the next one, when the traction is the best. Ive almost rear ended people when it engaged on a dry, clean, but washboard surface.

All that from off-roading?
