we were trying to change the oil on the 05 camry while we accidentally thought this thing was the jack point but apparently not! it made a like crack or pop sound when we were jacking it up. actually now that i think about it too much i don't remember the sound it made.. not sure if it was from the jack or the metal bar. its located in the near the front; there are one in each side, right and left.

what is it?

Looks like a drain [if the car was flooded or windows open in the rain] , and no harm.
But you should seal that area so no water comes in from the bottom side. A patch and glue, or pick out what was in there and reseal the hole with it [use sealer].

Looks to me like you popped in a plug on the floor pan? If that's what that is, you will need to seal/push it back into place.

Yup. Not exactly a good place to put a jack!

It ain't rocket science. Frame, frame rails, front subframe/rear subframe for unibody vehicles, solid parts of the chassis etc. Or, get an attachment for your jack so it will fit on the lip of the body where the spare tire jack goes.

Make sure to toss something under the car when it's jacked up for safety. I use a log.

Suspension attach points are the best place to put a jack.

You don't need to jack the car up to do an oil/filter change. It's right up in the front of the car. Out of all three cars my family owns, the Camry is the easiest and least messy to change the oil. And next time when you use a jack, put it under where the arrows point under the front and rear doors and you can put jack stands anywhere along the metal thing where the arrow is imprinted.
