I dont think fake oil is a problem in europe. Thats said, I have never seen helix ultra in 5L bottles before.

I bought some Syntec Blend back in the day that said 10W30 on the front label and 5W30 on the back label
hi! thought i should bump this thread since it's fairly related. i just bought 3 cans of shell helix ultra 5w40 for dirt cheap (22€/ud) on a fairly legit online shop. thing is, i opened one of them and the only seal is like the one a watter bottle would have. you only hear a "click" and that's it, it doesn't have that metallic adhesive looking thing that you usually have to peel. is it legit?
That was my typical experience with Shell. Sorry, that's all I can say, they don't have the aluminum foil like other brands can have.

Neither does Pennzoil unless it’s changed. I once got used motor oil purchased at Walmart. People were also stealing the codes under the caps and getting rewards/rebates. I listen for the “crack” when the cap is twisted, making note of the resistance to open.
Every jug of Shell oil I’ve ever bought has had an aluminium foil seal. Ours seems to be manufactured in Hong Kong.
every brand oil i used had some kind of seal.others have that aluminium others a plastic like motul.

Could you specify the market? They probably do different things, Malaysia had serious problems with counterfeit shell so they incorporated a hidden QR code which tells you if it’s original or not, this, afaik is not done in Europe (which I’m from)

The 5 quart container lids/seals. Regularly leak and the tamper-proof ring works about half the time.
bcs, you are from Europe US users cant help you if you think that there are different packages and seals which i doubt.google then can be your guide to your solution.

The Shell 5L bottles i've purchased here in Spain did not have any aluminium foil.

The last time I bought Shell it was 5w40 HX8 and I am fairly certain that had the foil seals.
Going to have to dig out the bottle and double check now

Though I would be inclined to think there is certainly the possibility that it’s a knock off, lots of fake car parts coming out of Turkey in recent years, wouldn’t surprise me if they have moved to doing oil aswell
VOA is likely the only way to be
surethat's very correct, Shell have also very poor quality on their packages in EU, and they tend to leak sometimes. ExxonMobil have best packages in my opinion
