Ordered a 2011 Chevy truck last week. Anyone know who makes the Dexos factory fill for GM? Pennzoil or Mobil?

I thought I read somewhere that Pennzoil had gotten the contract, but I am not sure. Maybe not Pennzoil, but SOPUS.

I wished I knew as well. I just bought a 2011 GMC a couple of weeks ago, and the truck seemed to run so smooth. When I changed the FF at around 900 miles, I put in Quaker State Ultimate Durability, and it still purrrs. Maybe that is what was in it?

I believe only Mobil 1 ( and perhaps EP too ) are the only oils that Mobil advertises as Dexos 1 certified. Even their Mobil Super synthetic does not seem to be Dexos certified. So, I don't see how it could be an Exxon-Mobil synthetic blend.

Not sure what Mobil product they use, but GM has a contract with ExxonMobil and it is the factory fill.

Just any FYI, Chrysler is factory filled with Pennzoil, Ford is factory filled with Motorcraft (ConocoPhillips), Hyundai is factory filled with Quaker State, and Toyota if factory filled with who knows, just depends on who you ask.

If you go to the Mobil 1 web site and use the oil selector for your vehicle, then pick the lowest protection oil, it will list Mobil Super Synthetic 5w30 first then Mobil Super 5w30 second. I did not think that either of these oils were Dexos certified, but maybe I am mistaken.

That's what I have in my car now, too, and I really like it. Just wish it were available in more viscosity grades (at least at the retail level).

This doesn't make sense unless GM is not following there own rules. GM requires dexos oil for the engine and my 2011 owners manual says that my engine was factory filled with dexos oil. The only exxon-mobil oil that is dexos certified is Mobil 1.

So, either the factory fill for all GM 2011's is Mobil 1, or GM is lying.

Not necessarily....Exxon-Mobile could be making AC Delco motor oil which is Dexos Certified. It could be something between Mobil super synthetic and Mobil 1, but only available in the AC Delco brand through GM Dealers. But if you buy Mobil oil you would have to buy Mobil 1 to get Dexos certified.

Good point. I guess the only place to buy that then would be at the dealer? Hmmm...interesting. I suspect I'll stick with my QSUD.

I think that is what I will use too.

My dealer has AC Delco Dexos 1 synthetic blend for $5.xx a quart. I think I am going to drain out the factory fill at 1k and try that, then switch to QSUD for 5k intervals at 4k miles.

AC Delco has a dexos semi-syn. Also, haven't seen any bottles of Pennzoil, QSUD or Mobil1 with dexos on the label yet.

We've got some in my WalMart. Its SN, GF-5 and Dexos. I'm running it now. If I remember correctly, the 5qt jug cost me $19 and the single qt was $5 and some change. AC Delco filter was $3 and some change. 5,000 mile OCI with a quality synthetic meeting all certs required by warranty with filter for only $29.00 roughly? Winning!

The service manager at the dealership said it's an E-M semi-syn. Maybe he's wrong or maybe it's an oil that E-M doesn't sell to the general public.

A co-worker's son is a service writer at a local Toyota dealership. He didn't know so he called his fluids supplier, a Valvoline rep, who said the factory fill is supplied by Mobil.
