Dex VI questions

My guess would be different suppliers, or updated packaging. I'm pretty sure dex VI is dex VI, if it has the GM approval on the back label. I use Valvoline dex VI (blue bottle) because my local NAPA store stocks it.

It's probably made by two different manufactures. Walmart (Supertech) has there version for less.

I want to say I read that Dex Vl is not always full Synthetic to meet Dex Vl requirements, and that some makers of the fluid sell it as a synthetic blend. Even AC Delco in some versions.

$6.46/qt. Order more than $35, ship for free. Or do site to store.
I saw some Dexron vi at O'Reilly for around $8-9. Don't remember if it was valvoline or oreilly brand.
Dealer was $12

Wow thanks. Google gave me a discontinued link. https://www.walmart.com/ip/disconti...tomatic-Transmission-Fluid-1-qt/17134873
maybe they changed the supplier who knows. Wondering if there is a SDS so i can see how close ST Dex VI is to ACDelco Dex VI.

It has to perform as a group III synthetic at a minimum to be Dexos VI certified.

The original Dex VI specification never said it had to be a full synthetic.

If you consider Group III base oils to be a conventional base oil, then Dex VI is Blend.

If you consider Group III base oils to be a synthetic base oil, then Dex VI is synthetic.

Most finished ATF's today are a mix of Group III, IV, and V base oils. Boutique ATF's are usually Group IV and V.

So in other words, the bare minimum for Dex Vl is going to be a Group lll spec and they can be loose with the term Synthetic or synthetic blend, but it meets Dexron Vl requirements anyway, so it really doesn't matter.

So I got the runaround from Tascaparts for 3 weeks telling me they were waiting for the rest of my order to come in and ship everything at once. Including the transmission fluid. It was out of stock, backorder, then they said GM doesn't have any Dex Vi transmission fluid left!! What a waste of time. I told them to send the $3 hose and 3 plastic clips that they had and cancel the rest of the order. Which they did. That was my first and last order with them.

I went back to gmpartsgiant which is part of a larger network that I've had success with in the past. 3 days later boom! Right in the factory box. I paid an extra dollar per quart but it's worth it. These say full synthetic on the bottle which I did not see on past quarts. Are there variations of ACDelco Dex VI or is it all the full synthetic?
