So, what do you get for my cars now with this new formula?

FYI, the C300 4matic has a 7.4qt sump and not 8.5qt like most sites report.

530i has 6.9qt sump.

Mercedes: w/ 7.4qt
NEW: 9660 miles or 11.6 months
OLD: 11810 miles or 14.2 months

BMW:
NEW: 9093 miles or 10.9 months
OLD: 10152 miles or 12.2 months

The old formula was derived from my screwing around with variables enough that it worked. This was a non-linear formula

This new formula, it very easy to explain why it works, is designed specifically for TBN decay, and my factors actually make sense. This is also a non-linear formula

Hey randomhero439. I forgot to put in the grade of oil. Seems like you are on to something here. Are you thinking about patenting the equation?

What about these two:

2006 Chevrolet Colorado 3.5 I5 running 5W30 Pennzoil Conventional API-SN
and,
2007 Chevrolet Cobalt 2.2 L4 running 5W30 Valvoline Conventional API-SN

Thanks!

Hold up! If you're using TBN decay then I don't think any formula could be applicable. Some oils have lower starting TBNs but the TBN hangs on longer than another oil with a higher starting TBN. I appreciate what you're trying to do, it is very exciting. However, without UOAs done on a sample, a LARGE sample, you simply can't know how percise your formula is. It is simply a ballpark, a HUGE ballpark at that.

Thanks. Since your formula takes tbn into consideration, could I have run about the same oci for the 1989 BMW 535i above with a HDEO such as Delvac 15w40? Thoughts?

I assumed it had a TBN of 10, like Rotella T6 does.

You can go about 800 miles more on it

Let's try with the new formula. Hmmm

Again 2013 Ford Focus 2.0L DI with Motorcraft blend 5W-20

Let's pull a few others out as well from the dustbin
2007 Ford Mustang 4.0L V6/ PP 5W-30
2003 Ford Expedition- "76" Lubricants 5W-20 Conventional (TBN of 8.0 according to the website)

1985 Honda Shadow VT500C/ Rotella T6 5W-40

randomhero439,

Kudos for taking your book learning and attempting a real life application. Education at its best.

Ramfan has an important point. From my interactions with the late stinky peterson (RIP, CAT oil labs manager/Bitog member), TBN retention is not consistent across oil brands or engine/vehicle variables.

For the fun of it:

2005 Dodge Caravan Short wheel base. 2.4L 4cyl., 5 quart sump. PYB SM, now SN

Mostly short trips, with occacsional highway. My Blackstone UOA's indicated 4,500 - 5,000 mile OCI was about max. during winter.

Best of luck with school. Your enthusiasm will take you far.

I may just release the formula in a little bit

5700 miles or 7 months. The SN TBN is higher than the SM i believe... as far as TBN retention goes, there is a factor for that.

The shadow is water cooled. I can only find the capacity as 2.5L with filter change.

Let's also try a 2013 Ford F-150 Ecoboost 3.5L V6, with PU 5W-30, towing and not.
