The oil will be used in a GM 3800 series 1 V6, which oil is a better choice? Delvac MX or Delvac 1300? Both of them are API SL/CI-4, however, MX has a lower TBN while 1300 has a higher viscosity in cold and hot.

What exactly are the differences between these 2 oil? They seem to be at a simular market segment with simular price. Are there any differences between their base stock?

Your answer is much appreciated.

...Just a bump so hopefully one of our Australian members will reply.

I too am curious about the Delvac MX, I have been a regular user of Delvac and only recently switched to Delo 400. However I am thinking of making the switch back to Delvac and checked with the local Mobil dealer who informed me that Mobil is only shipping Delvac MX instead of Delvac Super due to the reason that Mobil is primary supplier to Mercedes Benz dealers here in India and MB has specified this oil for their diesel engines as OEM fill.

Funnily the MX has lower TBN which is really strange considering that Delvac made its name from its long drain qualities. I wonder what other reformulation has been done to this oil, I would hate to see it get an inferior rating compared to their Delvac Super which has great HTHS numbers, a must for 50c driving here in the summers. I have asked Mobil tech about the MX rating and sadly no answers till date.

Just picked up 20 liters of Delvac MX and the case is marked CI-4 so I guess the spec sheets are quite old. Looks like we are getting the Super with a different name thats all.
