I need an opinion. I live in the high desert area of SO Cal (Read hot summers) and was thinking about using Delo 15w40 in my 04 4.7 V8 Tundra. Anyone have any idea if this would be a good oil for that aplication, or should I stick with the 5w30 the factory calls for?

5w30 or 10w30 yes.
15W-40 is way too thick for your Tundra.
If it were me and since I prefer 10w30, I'd run a synthetic blend like Valvoline Durablend or Motorcraft Blend. Castrol Syntec Blend is another good one. I'd stick with Toyota filters too.

I have a 02 Tundra - same engine. I live in 100F heat (Santa Clarita, so sometimes in the 110F+ range). I think the 15w40 is probably too thick as well. I am currently running 5W20 cheapo Chevron Supreme in it, but I haven't run a used oil analysis yet to see how well it is working.
I have run chevron 5W30 and Amsoil 0W30 in it the with used oil analysis to back up that they both work exceptionally well. Blackstone reported that the "wear numbers were so low it is almost criminal", and that was with the Chevron 5W30.

Running a full synthetic 15w40 would be fine, running a conventional 15w40 wouldn't be fine. It's all in the low temp flow properties. I would spend a few more dollars and get Amsoil 15w40 AME
How about GC. It is a thicker 30w oil and works well with the 4.7 Tundra engine.
It will not hurt anything at all and is priced nicely as well. My Moms Tundra is here in Michigan where I am. It has been feed a diet of Mobil 1 15W50 inthe warm months and Mobil 1 10W30 dureing the winter months. I belive her Tundra is a 2002 and it is running strong and quite! I have run Delo 15W40 in my I4 2003 Camry once dureing break in and regularly run Rotella T Synthetic 5w40 even dureing the winter. Just make sure you take a used oil analysis at some point to show all the nay-sayer how well it works!
Personally, I'd run Rotella synthetic 5w-40, if you want a 40wt oil with GREAT additives. I don't think 15w40 is too thick, but, why not have the better flowing properties of a 5w-40?

If you find your local Chevron Lubricants distributor you can buy Delo in 10w30, which would be a better choice than 15w40 IMO.

Depends on the truck/vehicle, I have always preferred a thick 30wt or 40wt in my Isuzu and late Toyota 22re p/up; and my diesel calls for 40wt; however, our new Toyota 3.4L is smooth as silk, running perfectly on 5w30.
i have used Mobil 1 0w-40 since the first 300 miles of my tundra (with the exception of one 0w-20 run for 13k that is posted in the OA section). this is the best of the Mobil 1 oils, and has both the low temp flow for the cool mornings, and the high temp stability for long summer days.

yes, use a robust 15w40 HDEO, no need for a 5w40 unless you want to run a real PAO/ester syn., stay away from heavily viscosity modified oils such as 5w30 conventional mineral
