Delco or Fram Ultra?

I always get a chuckle when someone thinks something is a "waste". Not like anyone is having to take out a second mortgage to use a Fram Ultra compared to a AC Delco, irregardless of the OCI. If it makes someone sleep well at night, it is not a "waste". More people spend more on a cup of coffee at a high end coffee shop, daily, than the different price between the filters. Spend thousands of dollars for a vehicle and then quibble over a couple of bucks on a filter. Go figure.

By that logic we should all use the highest quality synthetic and change our oil every 3000 miles as well.

My owner' manual says to change the oil annually if the oil life meter doesn't trip. Do you think a Fram Ultra can go over a year of service?

Makes sence...

FRAM ultra is for long OCI and if you useing a syn blend and going to doing oil change at 5K to 6k might as well use the A/C Delco from the pics of the A/C Delco that goes in your engine it looks like it held up nice.

Thats what I like about Catridge filters over sping on can style..

You know what your buying / getting with cartridge.

GO A/C

I agree. Only on BITOG could you have these types of "discussions."

The last 7 cars I owned were supposed to have a filter change every 15,000 miles according to the manufacturer. This is nothing new. My 79 Malibu called for an oil change every 7,500 miles of normal service and a filter change every other. The OEM specs for the factory filter of my present car must be able to perform for 15,000 miles. What would make anyone think a filter is only good for 5,000 miles? If they don't meet factory spec they are junk and/or defective.

Yes, easily. I've used oil filters for 2~2.5 years before on low mileage use cars and they looked fine inside.

Fram ultra is a very good filter. But in the OP's case is it overkill?

Not if he runs it for 2 or 3 OCIs to get close to 15K out of it.
