I bought a Dehumidifier last year and it work perfect all summer long . When I used it this year I noticed it isn't removing moisture .
What do I check first ?

Unfortunately a lot of dehumidifiers don't last.
Is the compressor and fan running? How are any filters?
Is the condenser cold or is it iced?
It seems to run normally but am only getting a few drops of water . Filter is clean . I'm assuming it's clean on the inside since I only used it one summer . I didn't check condenser .

Agree with the “new ones are junk” comments. I’ve seen a lot of old units still working strong. Consider going to a second hand store or a pawn shop and getting an older unit for a couple of bucks. My last used purchase was a dorm-sized refrigerator for $2.99 and it works great.

Agree with the new ones are junk and low on refrigerant. They make them as cheap as possible and not serviceable anymore, so if it develops a leak its pretty much time to buy a new one.. It probably doesn't even have any valves to check the pressure on the refrigerant.

I get a year or two max out of them, and that’s really only 6 months of use per year. They are all junk now. I’m xclose to buying a whole home unit or a commercial one but at $2,000+ vs $150 every year I’m not sure it is worth it.

The general rule is if the payback is > 8 years, the higher capital cost is not worth it.

But I get how having them fail regularly would be very frustrating as well.

Got sick of replacing units yearly bought a crawl space unit Moisture Medic and it's been running for years and pulls lots of water.

What brand is is? Does it flash a code on it's display? Like said, the new ones are really horrible. Especially the ones with a condensate pump in them as opposed to having a simple gravity feed. Many times it's the condensate pump that takes them out. Lots of youtube vidoes on it. Went through this a few times with family member's dehumidifiers.

I've been so lucky with my ~15yr/old Danby unit. She's still chugging along and runs about continuously from June - October.

Taotronic is the brand . Only code was for the filter .... but it is clean . I'm thinking the refrigerant leaked out because it worked fine last year before I stored .

Did you youtube the code for this brand? You might find a helpful video. I believe it's rare to have a refrigerant leak on these. It's everything else that causes the pop can sized compressor to not run.

I got my parents 40+ year dehumidifier running in the basement and it works fine .

Do you have a humidity meter or are you just going by "feel" ? I'm sure you're seeing similar, high humidity like we are so it might not be able to catch up at this point.
