Decided to Try a Carquest Premium.

I called PG Tech Line a while back for clarification. The official efficiencies are:

98.7%@15 microns(absolute)
99.5%@20 microns
99.9%@25 microns

It’s up to marketing of the various brands to decide which rating they use.

High efficiency filters usually have a short service life, rule of thumb being longer service life = lower efficiency & vice versa.

I was warned by an analyst years ago that the old Pure One would clog up early due to their high efficiency, so change them out sooner.

But high efficiency doesn’t sell filters, long life does.

I’m not so sure on that. The OG ULTRA’s I have can be ran 20k. Even the ancient tough guard 4967 I ran over 20k probably could’ve gone way longer.

Rowley’s has the Service Pro E series, the stat sheet they provide says:

• Extended life filtration media engineered to deliver up to 10,000 miles of engine protection
• 99% Multi-Pass efficiency and removal of particles as small as 25 microns

Ya the new Ultra says the same thing, 20k. That’s why I think so many pictures with wavy pleats are showing up. I go 5k max

If you live in Michigan near a Rowleys those Service Pro XL filters are by far the best deal at around $5 to $6.

So with all these issues with the construction of spin on filters, does anyone make a conversion to cartridge? Apparently these cartridge Frams are wire backed synthetic with no bypass or lip seal to leak.
