Went ahead and got the windows tinted for the new Golf. Don't mind the car looking dirty, they said to not wash it for 3 days or so just to keep any chemicals from touching the windows while the tint sets.

The tint looks a bit darker in the pics than in real life.

This is where I went. Very popular place in my area. Very professional and went the extra mile with pretty much everything.

Price was $165 and tint has a lifetime warranty through their shop.

What percentage is that? I think down here in FL, state law is 28% for the front side windows, Must allow more than 15% of light in for the back windows, and allow more than 15% of light in for the rear....

looks really dark from here

Im thinking about tinting my windows 35% to keep out the heat, but im worried about night time driving if its too dark. Have you driven at night with the tint yet?

$165? That's dirt cheap, twelve years ago I paid a specilty shop $240 to do the five windows on the 4 door Civic we just bought.

Good looking tint on that VW, and a good deal

35% won't be too dark for nighttime driving. I've got it all the way around in my Acura, and up front on my 4Runner (with the rest of the glass supposedly being about 20% from the factory). It may take a little while to get used to, but you will.

I find 35% to be about perfect for me. Not too dark, and keeps out enough light. Mine actually tested at 33% (ask me how I know...

I have both cars tinted with 35% VLT film. It's not very dark at all. Nighttime visibility is still excellent and the addition of the film helps cut glare from jerkwads behind me with HIDs-in-reflector-housing dumbofits. If I had to do it over again, I'd probably have 20% put on the rear passenger windows, 35% on the fronts & hatch. Even do one of the heat rejecting films on the windshield - it really makes that much of a difference in how hot it gets in the car.

FWIW, the interior color of the car makes a huge difference with how dark the tint looks from the outside. If you parked both my cars next to each other you'd swear my Golf had much darker tint than the NB, but they've both got 35% from the same roll. The black interior on the Golf makes it look far darker than the light tan interior of the NB.

Just grabbed 7 qts of M1 0w-40 on sale at pep boys so I decided to take a couple shots of the car in direct sun.

The tint is on the inside of the windows so how could washing the car cause a problem? That's nuts. Car looks good.

The car does look good.

Usually when a car gets washed, the interior gets vacuumed out and the windows cleaned. I'm sure they meant to not let the INSIDE of the windows get cleaned, especially with an ammonia-containing fluid.

Unless you have limo tint in the Miami area [5% or less] you are good to go..The bulk of the cars down have 15% or less.. 28% is way 2 light for down here.
