rice is a term originally considered racist but now is a term applied to cars, trucks, SUVs, whatever, that the owners want to give the APPEARANCE of something else.
Racing stickers, fa*t-muffler tips, large tires on the rear (on a FWD car), air dams, etc in some demented minds make standard vehicle "look" fast or special. Rice is a state of mind(-lessness)....
Well done graphics, ground control, etc can be very not-rice, but it's rare. Technically, air dams, wings and such on a car that runs on the street do nothing so they really are rice. But since it's an attitude, I'll give the benefit of doubt on a really well done job.
Regardless, if mommy paid for it, it's rice no matter what it is or how good it looks...
Things that really improve performance are not rice. But since those typically require $$ and/or brains, ricers will spend perfectly good money placing "XXX Racing Team" stickers across the windshield of a 1.5L Civic, bolt a coffee can to the exhaust and think that it makes their car fast.....
Oh, small oriental cars are not the exclusive domain of rice. Bubbabuggies (trashed-out pickups) are very commonly riced with stickers, hot air intakes, loud pipes, Christmas cab lights, whatever that say "look at me, I need attention...". We used to call them white trash but since bubbabuggies can be driven by any race, nationality, ethnic group, orientation, etc the term ricer is becoming somewhat universal in application.
Some vehicles are rice just by their very existance. Since rice is trying to be something you aren't, take the H2 for example...
