Call the police if it's bad enough, like throwing a stone. And clear the area ASAP. Had to do that on occasion when people were being outright dangerous.

I definitely believe in Karma! I believe that people who do good things for other people generally get a lot of good things happen to them in life, while people who do bad things towards other people get what they deserve.
And even if it isn't true, it's still good to live your life that way! (doing good things towards other people that is)

The other day I'm in stop and go traffic. I see some [censored] on a Harley cruising down the breakdown lane, passing everyone. I pull out into the breakdown lane and block him from going any further. He tries to go around me and I cut him off again. He starts mouthing curse words to me and such. I figured I made my point and pull back into my lane and I flip him off as he goes by. He looks like he's about to get off his bike for minute but ended up gunning it down the breakdown lane again. I almost kind of regret doing that, but not really.
Aside from cigarette man I wouldn't describe any drivers as malicious as described. If one assumes they are full of malice it serves to elevate the situation in their minds, and raises their blood pressure. How do we know the other driver is using 100% of their CPU cycles for malice? They could be distracted, which as a matter of internal peacefulness, could be a happier guess.
Some highway engineer study found that when two lanes merge into one, it goes fastest and smoothest if everyone waits for the last second. I'm way too considerate, naturally, and move over at the first warning sign. But armed with this "fact" I can't hate those who technically are helping traffic move more smoothly (in theory).

I usually just let vehicles like that in, not that I'm afraid of them but it just seems to be something nice to do for people that probably don't get much respect. I guess it reduces the chances of a problem too.

He was taking advantage of the traffic pattern and me, from out of state, knew to be over and out of the way.
Of course he will get his and I hope it to be a long and painful cancer from those cigarettes.
But what does one do and what recourse is there against such idiotic behavior?
Another example, once in a snowstorm, guys in a van threw snowballs at other cars, one hit my wife's.
What is the appropriate response, 911? Police report? No reason people should tolerate such behavior.
I do wish police would hang out at exit only chokepoints where a select few pass by and cut. Give them all $100 tickets for reckless and inattentive driving not with the pattern, and solve some budget issues...
Here in San Antonio, this is everyday. I've seen people literally ram each other with their cars out of rage. Saw one woman ram her brand new BMW into the rear of the woman in front of her at a stop light, pushing her car into the intersection with tires screeching and smoke everywhere. The terrifed woman accelerated through the intersection to get away from the crazy woman. Then the crazy woman pulled up to the cross-walk line and began to fix her hair in the mirror as if nothing happened. The rest of us were honking at her to stop while others called 911. And if you watch the news at night, you will find a story almost every night about a shooting related to road rage (along with the normal run-down of murders committed for the day). People have been known to follow others to their destination, then shoot them. San Antonio has become a very violent city; lots' of crime. The crime rate spiked after Katrina and with the huge influx of people moving here. I guess overcrowding leads crime.

There are some idiots here on the roads and as I age, I have learned to tolerate them. Could also be from the Celexa I'm taking.
What bothers me the most is people on cell phones...driving in heavy traffic.

Some brand new information released by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office on the Buckman Bridge shooting.
We initally reported that Derick Jackson was arrested for shooting at a driver on the Buckman. After the investigation what police are reporting happened is that Jackson threw a can of air freshner at Carl Henry Kroppman. Kroppman according to the report thought he was getting shot at when the can hit the car, so he showed Jackson his gun.
This happened after Jackson admitted to trying to cut off Kroppman who got mad, that's when the can was thrown.
Jackson then chased the other driver and the gun was shown out of fear for his safety, that's when he started shooting. The person that was shot wasn't the driver it was actually the passenger of Jackson's car, the shooting happened while both of them were still driving. The passenger asked Jackson to take him to the hospital instead he chased Kroppman some more and even rammed the back of the car two times while driving between 70 to 80 miles an hour.
Jackson then got in front of Kroppman's car and slammed the brakes, that's when the two got out of the car. While that was going on Kroppman was on the phone with dispatch.
The passenger that was shot was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The charges for Jackson, Shooting/Throwing Deadly Missiles into an Occupied Vehicle (air freshener), and Aggravated Assault (ramming of the vehicle). JSO says there are no other charges pending.

Some years ago, when I was living in Texas (if you can call it that), I've had older men actually wait at a stop sign for an un-suspecting driver (ME) to come along so he could pull out in front and get hit on purpose. Luckily, I saw him coming out and swerved just in time.
The second event was similar but I was in a work truck at the time, as I passed my his parked car he opened the door with the intention of me hitting it. I swerved and braked and only touched the door lightly. I stopped and tried to talk to this yahoo. It didn't work the three times he tried-I was standing right there witnessing this. He finally gave up and drove off.

It takes all types-with most all states now have concealed carry laws (only Illinois doesn't), who knows who is armed and who isn't. Discretion is the better part of valor I guess.
Take the license plate number, report it if you feel like it, and try to forget it.

Whoops, my mistake. I guess their courteous driving skills and throwing of cigarettes makes their case as wonderful people that I should aspire to become...

I just try to steer clear of the nasty ones. There will always be the "special" ones who feel they need to get ahead of the line by any means necessary. If they get real obnoxious about it, like some punk in a riced-up VW did just to gain one car length (me) and try to run me into the curb doing it, then fine, not worth getting into a collision over it. Of course, the punk had his buddies with him, so it would be hard to prove that I didn't contribute to it.
I stopped trying to be argumentative with the "special" ones after one of them got out of his car, apparently annoyed that I didn't just slam on my brakes and let him in front of the line of traffic who all knew the right lane was ending, and decided to see how sturdy my passenger window was with his fist when we stopped at the next light. He quit when he saw me calling the police and giving them the description of his car and he disappeared in a hurry. Never heard back from the cops after they said they were close and I lost sight of him.

That could get you killed as a biker thinks you are instigating trouble while they were minding their own business.
