Dealership oil change price

I get most of my oil in 6 gallon boxes. Price of name brand syn blend that we use is up 25 percent in the last 6 months. Depending on brand bulk oil is in short supply which is driving places that would usually get oil in bulk to use packaged oil which is more expensive. When my oil salesman was in wednesday he was telling us that they are out of Pennzoil 0w20 in everything but quart bottles and have been for months.

The Hyundai dealer I use was charging $49.95 for semi-Syn and a filter.
Now it's $69.95.
Also they have 15,000 mile service for $350 now what can they do to a 15000 mile car to justify that cost?
Is this nuts or is it me?
We got a free oil change book when we got the car so my cost is 0.
Subaru dealer in my area charges a lot for the 30k services. Lots of checking of things on a list, often not many fixes/fluid replacements. They mark down they checked stuff. Indy dealer I used for the 60k interval took pictures, used test strips, of everything on the list. So at least I know they didn't just pretend to check things. Those more major intervals cost money for labor to look things over, I honestly just don't know how many places ACTUALLY look the stuff over vs just mark that they do. But the pics proved my indy mechanic did. It's why I still trust them.

Yeah if there's one thing we don't make money on, it's oil changes.

Oh, and tires. Please, please, please just go to a tire store.
Tires!! Yes!! News flash: THERE IS NO MARGIN ON TIRES! Our shop has certified master techs mounting tires, and our prices reflect this premium service. We already know Costco, Walmart, Sam's Club, and Discount Tire are all cheaper, and will be the first to tell you that we're intentionally not in competition with them; if price is all you're concerned with, by all means go somewhere else.

Three of my cars now qualify for the BMW Ultimate Care Oil Services plan: $199 prepaid gets you three years of oil changes. Since BMW calls for a one year OCI at a minimum, it works out to under $67 per change at most.

They are in line with other dealers. You could always do the work yourself if you object.

I perform some maintenance myself but I also use a couple of shops that I trust completely. I like to have a different set of eyes inspecting my car in case I miss anything.

This is part of why I have my oil changes done at work by one particular tech. He's a "career oil changer" who was previously at a Ford dealer for a long time.

I was on my local Les Schawb's website last night. The tires for my truck were $100.00 EACH more than what I paid at Discount Tire-which price matched a Sams Club price. So yea-I will take my business else where.

I prefer to change my oil myself. If my vehicles had one of those pan/shields underneath it wouldn't be as enjoyable. I prefer knowing how tight the oil drain bolt is and how the oil filter was put on. on my truck, you don't even have to jack it up. The time to go to a dealer and be a waiter is a pain also. Super Tech and a filter, less than 20 bucks.

When I bought my R/T in 2012 my dealer gave me lifetime free oil changes. Immediately after I bought the car it had an issue with the left head light. It took those morons 3 visits to figure out that is was the DC-DC converter (12 V to 42V ) that the HID plugged into. So, I decided not to have them work on anything not warranty related after that, even if it was lifetime free oil changes.

There are people who believe their dealer (and only the dealer they bought their car from) is allowed to touch their car. That means tires, oil changes, wiper blades, etc. When it comes to tires, "oh no, can't go to Tire Warehouse, I don't want to void my warranty". I suspect that dealers getting into the tire business was mostly done for this reason - they have a captive market.

My co-worker believes that the company vehicles (VWs) must be serviced at the dealer because "they use a special oil".

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: My cars use a "special oil" also. Nothing but Amsoil. LOL. Why? Because my cars are special to me.

The theory is that you make up for the small margin on tires by upselling other work found while doing the tires, same with an oil change being a loss leader. The problem at a dealer level is around the 25-30K mile mark when most people get their first set of tires, they are still under warranty or they have a ton of miles and instead people just buy something else. Where the last point gets interesting is the boondoggle we are in now where there is minimal new or used car inventory so people are fixing cars they normally would just trade in.

Our local Ford dealer has a big sign on each new car windshield “Free Lifetime maintenance!”

And on his addendum sticker he lists “Maintenance plan, $899.00”

I’m not shopping there for anything!

What's really weird are the competitive brand used car people who are like this. I get it if they have a maintenance package or coupons, but there are people who will not go anywhere else. I had a guy go ballistic because we didn't have a fog light kit in stock for a nearly fifteen year old Dodge Dakota that he bought as is at our Chevy dealer, and that I couldn't give him price and availability without first calling a Dodge dealer.

Well thank you.
Denver is very nice have you thought about moving?
We have the minor league Colorado Rockies baseball team and the we aint gonna make the play offs again Broncos.
The Nuggets and Avalanche are pretty good.

Hahahaha

Naw, Colorado doesn’t fit my style. But I’ve been, yes there’s some beauty there but, nah.
