The Hyundai dealer I use was charging $49.95 for semi-Syn and a filter.
Now it's $69.95.
Also they have 15,000 mile service for $350 now what can they do to a 15000 mile car to justify that cost?
Is this nuts or is it me?
We got a free oil change book when we got the car so my cost is 0.

I'm not sure how nuts those prices are for the oil change. Cost of labor and materials seems to add up. I would be skeptical of quality of oil and filter used, if not listed.

It's probably a loss leader for the shop, but they will use it to find other work that "needs" to get done on the vehicle.

Prices are not increasing at the rate of inflation-but much, much higher increases. The Hyundai dealer is doing what other businesses are doing. The new normal is at least $15.00/hour for the most most basic of jobs in most big cities in the U.S. Welcome to the new normal. Our unemployment Utah is 2.6%-this figure represent those who want to work are working-and there will always be those who won't/can't work. There are job openings everywhere-in every sector you can imagine.

Looks like you get a car wash, fuel additive, cabin filter, oil change and tire rotation
  • Add fuel additive
  • Complimentary car wash
  • Inspect air cleaner filter
  • Inspect air conditioning refrigerant
  • Inspect battery condition
  • Inspect brake hoses and lines
  • Inspect drive shaft and boots
  • Inspect exhaust pipe and muffler
  • Inspect front disc brakes/pads, calipers and rotors
  • Inspect fuel tank air filter
  • Inspect rear brake discs and pads
  • Inspect steering gearbox, linkage and boots/lower ball joint
  • Inspect suspension mounting bolts
  • Inspect vacuum hose
  • Install Genuine Hyundai oil filter
  • Replace climate control air filter
  • Replace engine oil
  • Rotate tires

My dealership charges $50 for a synthetic oil change and $40 for a synthetic blend oil change. I know that they use TGMO 0w20 in my vehicles and they also carry Subaru and Honda brand motor oil that can be used by customer request.

$69.95 is reasonable. Have you priced the quick lube places lately?

Is the dealer just changing the oil or are there other things they do like tire rotation, fluid top off etc?

What........ some of you NEVER owned a business? So you run all dealerships together in your comments without knowing their operating expenses? . You do realize each one is an INDEPENDENT business right? And in such there is a cost to run a business?

Sorry BUT it really bothers me on almost every forum in either off topic threads or specific threads commonly on auto forums if a dealership or service shop comes up in the conversation you all think they are over priced. And some even feel getting ripped off?

IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE SERVICE OR PRICES OF LABOR OR PARTS FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO PATRONIZE!

I just got my comp change and rotation yesterday on my '21 Tucson at the Hyundai Dealer here. It was still listed as 49.95$. While I was in the waiting room they sent me a text with their inspection 'report' which consisted of "fuel Induction service", Fuel system cleaner" "Cabin air filter replacement (which I just replaced with OEM myself last month)", and "windshield wiper blades( which seriously, I replaced last week with rain-x latitude blades)". Mine has 21400 on it now. Its just het way of all dealers to get money through service. The fuel stuff was "BG" service.

Just in the past 3 months my cost on oil has gone up 20-35%. At the first 8% increase we decided to not change what we charged, but at some point we had to.

Every Hyundai dealer around here has coupons. I use one every time. Usually $29.99 for oil change only, or $39.99-$49.99 for Works which includes tire rotation.

Even Valvoline would be $50-$70 to do oil change only, and for them i use a 50 percent off coupon.

It is not in the dealers best interest to properly maintain you're car. They are in the business of selling cars.

Think about that.
No matter where you buy your car, soon after purchase, from the perspective of the dealer you bought it from, their favorite place in the world for your car to be is on the rack in their service department.

If that were the case, dealerships would get rid of their service departments entirely or only perform warranty work. That said, it's not true.... the service department operates as a distinct business unit of the dealership and is expected to be profitable.

And many people have meltdowns over that price or call it a rip-off or criminal. But do the simple math (using retail prices): $50 - $25 (oil) - $5 (filter) = $25 for labor, overhead, etc. You can be sure that shops aren't rolling in $$$ doing $50 oil changes. Oil and filter doesn't cost them that much ? So what... They're a business in a capitalist economy and that's how they operate. DIY for "a lot less" ? Go for it. A lot of people can't DIY or don't want to DIY.
