In July of 2012 the wife bought a 2012 Mazda 3 Gt. It has been a great car. She put 67,000 miles on it and never needed a repair. The dealer is about 40 miles away. We've been buying the package deal for the oil changes (mazda full synthetic, changed every 5000-7500 miles, 4 for a special price). The car is too low for me to get under and I don't trust ramps and jack stands, and the way she puts on miles we figured we'd establish a relationship with the dealer in anticipation of the next purchase. THey are also a Jeep dealer and my Wrangler is heading to 200K and we were thinking of maybe upgrading.
In conversations with other potential purchasers we have talked up the Mazda and this dealer. We will definately consider another Mazda in the future.
Unfortunately, the wife totalled the car. We walked away with $5100 from Geico and figured we'd pick up a cheaper car for cash while we waited to see what Mazda was coming out with for the 2016's.
Realizing we had a few changes left on the oil change plan, she called the dealer and asked if she could get a partial refund (didn't really expect that) of if we could use the changes on the other car. They refused. Too bad, so sad, nice knowing you.
THe Crown Vic and the Wrangler use regular conventional oil, a basic filter, and although six quarts it would be cheaper than the Mazda oil change. Or we would pay the difference.
I can change the oil myself for about $25, and the time wasted and cost of driving 80 miles round trip doesn't add up so I am not losing much. It just amazes me that a dealer will lose a relationship over something that petty.
