Dealer tried to sell engine flush and TB cleaning.

I took my own throttle body off the engine and cleaned it.

And I'm pretty sure I cleaned it more thoroughly than the dealer would've done.

Are you trying to tell me that you trust the manufacturer of your vehicle more than a salesperson at a dealership when it comes to specifications and services for your late model vehicle?

How many miles does the malibu have on it? This is another reason why i dont wanna take my malibu in for its free oil changes. I dont want them selling me stuff and looking for stuff. The only reason i can see them asking for a "air-fuel induction service" is becauae its a GDI engine (carbon build up on valves) but u probably have low mileage.

An honest mechanic is worth his weight in gold to me.

I had a guy in New York who would do work out of a little warehouse that he rented with two lifts.

He would show me what needed done and what did not need to be done. Saved me a lot of money when I lived in an apartment and couldn't work on a car.

I stopped dealing with my local toyota dealer, they are too annoying. Offering me nonsense that I do not need over and over again. Then the sales guy will call me every 6 months just to chat about the car. He even called on my birthday to thank me for buying the car, like we were buddies.

The parts department at my dealer has poor service and nobody knows what is going on. I started ordering everything from Rockauto and amazon, including fluid and I cut them out.

My Mazda dealer offers free oil changes for as long as I own the car; they've never attempted to upsell anything- they have never pushed any flushes or other "treatments" either. In fact, when my Mazdaspeed needed new rear pads(for the first time) at 125,000 miles my SA told me, "The rotors are still good- no reason to replace them."

What's funny is that these idiots ($tealerships) are their own worst enemies at least in the long run because they drive away the very customers claim they want to keep for the long run from sales to service. It's really insane. I tried out another local Honda dealer because I wasn't happy with the quality of the local independents around here lots of poor work and shadiness! (not in CT another state)and sure enough after doing a specific job which I knew what exactly needed to be done to stop an oil leak, the place gave me back the car with YET ANOTHER OIL LEAK! That was NOT there BEFORE I took it in, I checked every inch of the engine carefully, and they were suggesting that it was the result of a possible HG, or rear main seal! Well I told them NOTHING MORE was going to be done and left immediately after paying a lot of money for my repair.
Turns out that the leaking was actually left over residue from the repair I had done, and possibly they poured some oil over the block as well ( It looked like they did as there was no reason for that much to be there seeing that they should have used brake kleen or washed the repair area to make sure it was clean and free of a leak....A few weeks later no more oil dripping because there WAS NO OTHER OIL LEAK.

Instead of that dealer getting a long term loyal customer that would have earned them thousands of more dollars, they got a one time payment for work and they will NEVER SEE ME AGAIN AS A CUSTOMER!

First off your vehicle is pretty new for the Moc TB & injector cleaning.

Usually it is a 100K service that is sold as a 30K PM item for unsuspecting customers.

The cleaning itself is worth it and does restore the injectors to better working condition and the TB does collect blowby over time and it does need cleaning.

The service is needed but not so early

The 144 service is not throttle body it is an induction service where they hook the cleaner into the fuel rail and run the engine to clean the valves etc.]

is it needed, certainly not on a 2014 vehicle.

This is nothing new. Every dealership I've worked at has done the Wynns (or similar) upsell - Ford, Holden, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Mazda... The service advisors and managers get kickbacks, from coffee mugs right through to Gold Coast holidays. Just politely say "no thanks" and let them move on to the next sucker.

Is this supposed to be news or something new? Is this the first car you've ever taken to a dealer? Same tactics from 20 years ago with different words friend, wise up.
