Dealer add on prices.

True. But the jeep is useless for carrying anything at all. I really need a small truck.

You ever try to get a 75lb bag of chicken scratch out of the rear seat of a jeep?

Join a Jeep website. A rust free TJ with the 4.0 and 5-speed is worth good money to the right enthusiast buyer. 5K isn't out of the question, bad paint and all. If you follow the suggestion of @macarose, and find an autobody shop to do a decent scuff and spray for cheap, you might do even better on it's value.

I have a harder time getting it out of my wife’s van than I do the back seat of my truck… but I have to bend down for the van, the truck is at “skippy” height.

The chickens appreciate your efforts however!

Sell your Jeep yourself and pay cash for your new vehicle or finance for 36 months. The "fluff" is what they make the most money on.

When our Ram 1500 with 8,500 miles on it was totaled due to a massive hail storm, my wife and I decided not to replace it. Still wanting the ability to haul some stuff, and only having an Audi Q5 at the time, we bought a 4.5' x 10', 2,000lb aluminum trailer. The trailer weighs just over 300 pounds, so has a useful load of almost 1,700lbs. I've used it to haul a lot of stuff. Anything super heavy or long, I can have delivered from Home Depot or Lowe's, etc., although I did carry a 15' x 50' roll of artificial turf using some creative supports using the fill material. Much less expensive than replacing a pickup we hardly ever drove.

Used the trailer Friday morning to take our dogs' crates to our daughter's before our trip. They are large dogs, and instead of breaking the crates down and putting them back together, I just throw them on the trailer, put on a couple of straps, and I'm done.

Tractor Supply and Harbor Freight both have relatively inexpensive trailer options that will give you the ability to easily haul what you need compared to a small pickup.

Or, just use your F250 for hauling jobs!
…it’s just you have mentioned on here many times how ‘tight’ finances are for you..the problem with the well..etc…
So spending money you need for other stuff on a $$-9 year old vehicle doesn’t seem to make sense. You have the Jeep for running around, and the old F250 for hauling stuff!

I have been throwing around the idea of getting rid of my jeep and getting a small truck.

Saw a 2016 frontier last weekend so I inquired on it.

101k miles
No accidents
Regular oil changes reported to Carfax
$16xxx.xx

Salesman got back to me today.

They offered $500 for my jeep! Dealer is in Az so I'm guessing a jeep TJ would be easy to sell with all the off roading there.

After all the add ones and whatever else they came back with $380 per month for 72 months!

That $16k truck suddenly went to $28k! LOL

I mean I was born at night but not last night.
Least expensive thing to do is to keep your Jeep. You can rent a PU for occasional jobs.

The problem is that the wife will call as I'm leaving work and ask me to bring home something that won't fit in the jeep. That means I have to go all the way home. Get my truck then go back out. A round trip to home Depot and back takes over an hour.

Why not get a trailer for stuff you need to haul?
I have a trailer and a big truck. I'm certainly not going to pull a trailer to work every day in case I need to suddenly stop by somewhere after work.

Jeep does not have a hitch but that could be added.

The truck is very bulky to manuver in parking lots that are designed for a Kia.

It’s just buying a $28k-with-financing truck for ‘if’ your wife calls for you to bring something home seems foolish. I mean, how often does she call for you to bring home something big?
C’mon Chris, just admit YOU really want a new truck…we’re all friends here!

OK. So, you go home from work. Next day you drive your PU to work and get what she wants on your way home. She's gotta plan 1 day in advance.

Chris,

Would a trailer receiver basket possibly be a solution for your Jeep hauling stuff?

I had a 2000 TJ, fully understand the challenges with moving stuff inside the Jeep.

My solution to the good mileage, cheap to run 2wd farm truck... With ~400lbs of feed, makes it squat a bit, but not that much really as Ford put in rising rate springs in the rear. With slightly bigger tires you also have 6.9" of ground clearance, I run 195/65R15 which fit easily under the strut spring perch. Washers, dryers, dishwashers all fit too.

You tell her that
“Honey I ordered a bunch of pavers, will you pick those up for me on your way home?”

Or my personal favorite:
“Hey wake up (I work nights)! I found *THING* on FB marketplace for free but we gotta go now and it won’t fit in my van.”
