I have been throwing around the idea of getting rid of my jeep and getting a small truck.

Saw a 2016 frontier last weekend so I inquired on it.

101k miles
No accidents
Regular oil changes reported to Carfax
$16xxx.xx

Salesman got back to me today.

They offered $500 for my jeep! Dealer is in Az so I'm guessing a jeep TJ would be easy to sell with all the off roading there.

After all the add ones and whatever else they came back with $380 per month for 72 months!

That $16k truck suddenly went to $28k! LOL

I mean I was born at night but not last night.

Sorry $14xxx

We don't know what your financing variables look like so it is impossible for anyone to judge. What I do know is that interest rates are relatively high right now and will likely be for the foreseeable future.

It's a Nissan Dealer. This is what one expects. Take your Jeep to Carmax for a trade in evaluation. No obligation. Then you will have a baseline.

Carmax will wholesale it, this is a vehicle you sell private party.

I would agree. My Son just bought a very, very clean 2002. Paid top dollar from a private party for it. The OP is in an area where there would be buyers for it...I would think.

I sold my 1999 TJ last October for $3,500- and it needed some serious repairs to the frame.

Not to toot my own horn but I can do better than that in my sleep.

The Frontier is usually a pretty easy vehicle to acquire at the wholesale dealer auctions. My car buying service has been used by a few regulars here and I'm also the co-developer of the Long-Term Quality Index.

If you're seriously looking, I can seriously help. Feel free to PM me.

P.S. That Jeep of yours is super-easy to sell if the miles aren't all the way to the moon and the frame is sound. If you want guidance on that I can help as well.

4.0 TJ's have actually started to go back up in price again specifically because of the 4.0L. If its in good condition its worth a reasonable amount - maybe $8K private party - depends a lot on how molested it is. Closer to stock the better. Most got cut up over the years.

The Frontier if 4WD and also in good shape is actually priced about right for a Nissan dealer. That would sell here for $14K.

All stock. Desert so no rust but the paint is bad.

2wd

Less obviously but not by as much as you would think. Realize that truck now MSRP for close to $40K and sells for not much less, so people that need them line up to buy decent used stuff.

My 2011 has been flawless but it actually needs cats now, which is normal - Nissan cheeped out on the cats. In California you will need to buy the OEM CARB ones likely. If you do go this Gen Frontier - stay 2011+ as the two big potential quality issues were fixed.

That is why dealers make more money on used cars than new ones.
Was the salespersons name Ben Dover?
The best way to get value out of that jeep is to sell it privately.
Clean it up, get the hood and the back door resprayed, and go for top buck.
It's a Jeep. Even with the miles, you should be able to get a good number out of it.
You are a mechanic. You should be able to vouch for and demonstrate top mechanical condition for the vehicle.
Take that value, and roll it over for a bigger downstroke on the replacement.
If financing it is going to make a 9 year old truck with over 100K a 28+K vehicle, you may as well take advantage of incentives and go new.
I think you said that the Nissan was 2wd.
At least around here, those are going for low 30's.
My feeling is that at least on a new one, you should be able to get more advantageous financing. If you are going to pay an outrageous amount of interest on a used one, you may as well take some of that cash and enjoy one 9 years newer with 100K less miles on it for not a whole lot more money.

There was one by me listed for $25K. I didn't note the mileage but I did notice the entire underframe and frame rails were sprayed with bedliner, which had then been painted over, probably hiding a LOT of rust. This was at a corner used-car lot..... I wonder what kind of crazy interest rate they were pushing!

Maybe you get two at that price.

I'd sure like to see a breakdown of what they were trying to add-on.
