I'm looking for one that I can use in my truck/car, and as a possible a helmet cam, or one that attaches on my motorcycle windshield. I've seen some that some can be left on to monitor your vehicle while parked, but most of the ones I've looked into, customers say the battery life wasn't so good. I really don't want to hardwire anything either, just plug into a USB.

Need something that holds up in extreme temps for riding a motorcycle, and I don't want to have to constantly bring the unit inside in the Winter and Summer. I wouldn't be doing a whole bunch of motorcycle riding in the rain.

I would get a USB battery pack to keep it on during park mode if you don't want to hardwire especially for the motorcycle.

my friend uses a GoPro with helmet mount when he rides. Has image stabilization. great video quality. Looks where he looks. No parking as it stays with him. I think he does have a more solid mount on the bike if he wants to.

So they are wireless to the phone now? I bought one awhile back that had to run wires. I gave it to a buddy. Well one a new car/truck, I'm not tearing into the headliner and dash and pillars it to run wires. Yeah I know.

Battery just doesn't last long enough for a days riding. you will have to bring it in and charge it every few hours or so.
if you hardwire one, or 12V adapter wire one, you can usually get 2-3 days of rides on a sd drive. if you download the videos to phone every day you can delete the old files.
the best on battery will be the GoPro hero 4, or the newer insta 360. I have a pile of GoPros from the original hero to the 10 black, and the 4 and 7 are my go to for 90% of the go pro stuff, lately I've been using the insta 360, it's a great piece of hardware. and is rapidly becoming my favorite.

For a more permanent dash cam I have Garmin 55 in my wife's car and sons 4 runner. they work good but have the 12V adapter in use.

Yup! I've got a windshield camera and a rear windshield camera from the same company. Both have built-in wifi. I've checked both cameras, and I get great vids on my iPhone.

I don't think most of the regular dash cams are waterproof either. If you do get caught in rain or even excessive morning dew it might ruin them.

Quick search brings a Vantrue setup. Not inexpensive but the regular car setups get pretty good ratings.

Sounds like a GoPro would be the best fit for OP. There are tons of accessories and mounts for these cameras, so it should be the easiest to adopt for both a car and motorcycle usage.

I use 2 seperate systems between my bikes and car. On the bikes I use my Insta 360 Ace Pro attached to my helmet.

I know the Ace Pro can be used a auto dashcam but I've never tried it since my car already has a dashcam installed.

It all depends on a model I guess, but for the most part removing the glove box should give you access to route the cable to the center console.

The A-pillars are usually easy to pop off because there is an airbag behind them, so they cannot be hard to remove as that would impede airbag deployment.

For the rear camera, the headliner usually doesn’t need to be touched because once you peel off the door gaskets, there is enough room to tuck in the cable under the liner. Just mind the airbags.

But I understand your concerns. If something does go wrong, you will be hearing the squeaks and rattles for the next number of years.
