Dangers of running a high-pressure radiator cap

I had a 19 lb cap on my Genesis Coupe. I also installed an adjustable fan controller. Then I put i a pressure gauge in the loop.

At 200f the pressure got to 19lbs, the fan came on and then the pressure dropped to 13 lbs or so with the fan shutting off at 190f. It would sit there and oscillate like that at idle.

Interesting to watch.

Are you running synthetic oil? If not switch to synthetic. If you are hitting the H on the temp gauge I would:

1. switch to the next higher oil viscosity & synoil
2. add an oil cooler
3. clean your radiator & cooling system inside and out
4. install a new thermostat
5. increase new coolant to 60/40

See what happens.

First thing he needs to do is find out what the actual coolant temp is. If there is an OBDII port on the vehicle you can get the a scan gauge to plug in and see. The Ultra-Gauge is a nice one. Or even better and cheaper if you have a smartphone is the Torque app.
