DA (dual action) or orbital are they the same thing?

3 types

RO only has centrifugal force to keep the backing plate spinning ->easiest to use/ most forgiving

DA usually is geared which keeps the backing plate spinning -> some minimal skill needed more aggressive.

The most aggressive is a rotary polisher.

Many DA sanders can also be locked to perform like a rotary, my old Hutchins has this feature but I rarely use it in this mode. Think of a DA like a forced rotation orbital.

No, actually you did...

Get the Meguiar's Heavy Duty headlight restoration kit and use a corded variable speed drill. You will have more control and get better results for polishing headlights. I have the Porter-Cable D/A and a Craftsman orbital polisher which work well on painted body panels, but are way too unweildly for polishing headlights.
Too late, I already have the DA polisher...I'm using it...

Doesn't dual action refer to the fact that the pad spins but also shifts linearly to prevent heat build up? I didn't think it had to do with the drive mode.
