Recently, I was cruising past a gun store and decided to drop in. In was in Randolph county NC...... should you be in NC, if not....go elsewhere.
They had a great selection of several different guns. I would recommend going there the next time you need something.
Anyway, after 2 years of pondering, I finally picked up a CZ457, in 22lr. I typically will research the hell out of an unknown and this is no different. It has tremendous iron sights. Puts you in mind of an old M1903 or Mauser. All steel, with a slider that corresponded to yardage out to 200 yards. A fully protected front sight. With good eyesight, they are no problem to pick up. And, the best thing is that the slider for adjusting yardage, is spot on......this was a consensus amongst my research that is 100% true. I did test it out to 200. It was raining pretty good that day, and I did not take pictures, but they were all kill shots, easily a "minute of squirrel butt " at 200. At 50, "minute of squirrel eyeball".
One thing that was also a trend in the reviews of the gun was wood stock quality. Quality meaning "the look". Some noted that it was hit or miss with CZ unless you go to the Premium line.
They had 3 to choose from, so I picked up the one I thought was the prettiest.
Bottom line, it is an excellent rifle, and I am glad I got one finally. If you are in the market for a nice 22lr, this one will not fail to impress. Ultra smooth, super accurate, pointable, nice irons....killer package. They are expensive in the 22lr world, and the magazines are not cheap, but it is not a combat gun, so two mags is really all you need.
I have put about 200 rounds through it so far, and I need to do my Ballistol ritual with it.
I ordered a simple leather sling and a spare magazine, and when it comes in I will take some pictures, with a better range report than hearsay. Below is a stock photo.
