Cybertruck experience...

Yeah, that's kinda why I asked him the reason he bought it. Politely, but he knew what I meant. A real easy going guy, but he lived in Saratoga, and that is pricey real estate. I will say he seemed to really enjoy his CT; ear-to-ear smiles... It is big and heavy, but is very nimble, as I understand. He said as much, after he got used to the drive-by-wire and 4 wheel steering.

By the way, lotsa vehicles are status symbols. My 2001 Tundra is probably more of a truck than most of the big dollar Bro Dozers on the road today.
People don’t typically buy daily driver trucks because they make good trucks. They’re big and look like trucks and that’s all that matters to most.

Most do tow with HD trucks, but the few that I do see that are modified are all Cali leaned with low profile mud tread style tires and those make me laugh. I’d hope the driver knows it looks ridiculous and is trying to get a laugh, but that’s too expensive of a joke to be the case.

Carolina squat for the win! That is one useful truck!

My GTI did this. I'm sure my new Tesla will do this. LEDs don't melt snow. It's pretty infuriating.

The extra shelf as they say doesn't matter. A blocked headlight is a blocked headlight.

The shelf would definitely exacerbate that issue.

I've had 0 issues with my LED's, it all slides right down.

It's just another nail in the coffin of that thing. It's a very poorly designed and executed "truck". If someone wants an EV truck, then they're 100% better off getting a real one from GM who actually knows what they're doing.

The snow doesn't come off at 60 mph where I drive. I've had to pull over 3 times on the way of my 35 mile trip to work in my VW and there's heat generated from under the hood.

I'm not arguing that there aren't better options for trucks, I just don't think EV is the answer for any of them. If the cost of fuel is the problem with the truck from driving further distance and that being the only reason, I don't think the truck is the right form factor. Either you're not towing and driving far enough for that gas is more expensive and that's a waste of vehicle or you're towing longer distance and the EV truck is a hassle.

I say this as as EV fan. All daily commuter vehicles regardless of what they are powered by in the $80k+ range are all ridiculous. Arguing which one is less ridiculous is funny to me. The Chevrolet is nearly as stupid just on weight alone. 8k+ lbs is a bad joke.

I'm not arguing about EV trucks in general. I'm saying particularly the Cyber Truck is pathetic, its design is about Elon making a statement and not about being a good truck, and that if you want an EV truck GM does it much better.

And yes, that shelf will make things far worse than other LED designs.

The thing is hideous and poorly designed. I think this part is more of an LED problem than a design problem though.

As I've been saying, the shelf makes the problem worse. Not that hard to understand why. Many LED's (like my aftermarket ones) put out enough heat to melt snow but having a shelf under it adds support for the goop.

As a person who will likely never be able to drop $80k+ on a vehicle...

I like it a lot, BUT it is a want not a need. At this price point, I would be hard pressed to buy it over a 911 or a sweet professionally restored muscle car. (Irrelevant... Unless I hit the lottery)

Not my favorite wrap but it’s pulling a trailer!View attachment 249785
I actually kind of like the 50s vibe on an obviously modern design.

The optics of the body, take it or leave it.

The knowledge gain from doing something like this for the first time ever, or at least combining a few novel concepts done onesie twozies the decades over is better than anyone else has done.

I’m more interested in how they take the knowledge and make the next gen better looking and performing.

They are everywhere in WA state. There is a purple one and a green one I see around here weekly and I generally see the stock ones daily.

There are two here on base. It is not for me because of what I tow, but if the people who buy them enjoy them then more power to them.

I have sat in one and I found it comfortable, I just don't care for how they look.
There are a lot here too. I see car carriers of them coming all the time.

It’s not a tow truck. Like in OP, it’s a ridgeline. A faux truck that provides some utility.

Try towing a 10000 to 12000 lbs trailer with something lighter than 7000 lbs. You want the extra weight. It keeps the vehicle firmly planted and the tail is not wagging the dog. I don't know but I am going to guess you have not really towed anything heavy or over 28 feet long and that is fine, but it makes a HUGE difference. I agree on the 80,000-dollar thing. That is ridiculous for any vehicle really IMO.

I finally had the submarine float weighed Overall it is 10,800lbs and tongue weight is 1500lbs, that blew my mind. It is just at 30 feet long. Dumb heavy equipment trailer. I was not there when they purchased it. My 3/4 ton is over 7500 lbs., and I like it for towing that thing.

Again, the Cybertruck has its place for people who can do the electric thing, but I wouldn't tow either of my trailers with it or any 1/2 ton for that matter.

Yes, that's what people do with HD trucks.

The average EV truck consumer will never scratch the hitch. The Average 1/2 buyer won't either. Trust me we don't disagree on this. I just don't understand the point in the EV truck and any level and 90% of 1/2 buyers underutilize their trucks and overbuy for vehicle. I don't know if it's the same where you're at, but I rarely see dolled up HD trucks unladen though there are a few with ridiculous wheels. The rest on occasion may be clean and well taken care of, but they're usually towing here.

The Cybertruck is purely status symbol and the EV Silverado won't be a whole lot different, just as the EV Hummer is. The Silverado will be more likely to tow than the other two.

Honestly the only EV trucks I've seen towing so far was a Rivian and a Lightning traveling together. If anything based on the fact that they were together I wouldn't be surprised if it was just testing and not actual owners, but I could be wrong.

The owner of the Cybertruck I mentioned driving back in March, tows an Airstream travel trailer with his. I believe he said the Airstream weighs about 7k. It definitely effects the range, when towing, but he says it hasn't left him stranded, as he knows the approx. range he'll get with each charge. It seems to work for him.

When we were towing our 5th wheel, we had 82 gallons of Diesel when fully fueled, at about 8-9 mpg, we still had a good range without having to stop to refuel.

I’ve got a friend who owns one. He likes it as a vehicle, not because he wanted a truck. It’s big, it’s powerful, it’s a hot rod for a guy who likes tech. His driveway dumps onto a highway at a blind corner with wrecks there weekly. If we didn’t call it a truck, maybe it would be more acceptable. Add a 3rd row and call in a -bus.

I heard this week they don’t take well to wraps… metal corrosion trapped beneath?

Don't let people around here see you call it a hot rod. Apparently Teslas are all appliances. Just ask @edyvw.

I'm not sure on the wrap thing. I've heard of some finish issues. I haven't seen any that anyone has pulled a wrap off to show it, but I'm sure if it was one of the ones having that issue, wrapping would just mask it.
