Do you think that in the future Subarus cvtf3 fluid would be available from other companies. Not a multi vehicle fluid but one that meets the spec for Subaru.

Not in the sense of having a license. I have yet to see an Asian manufacturer license their fluid to a third-party.

“Meet the spec” is the same as anything else in that regard.

Exactly this - Asian OEMs tend to have a single supplier of their oil, that is effectively then the 'approved' fluid although there is no published specification or approval process. The best that any other suppliers can do is carry out equivalence testing, vehicle testing etc to come up with a matching product. And it's unlikely they'll do this for just one application, hence the raft of multivehicle type fluids that aim to satisfy as many similar applications as possible.

Eneos is a big oil blender for some Japanese vehicle manufacturers.

I used Eneos CVT Eco fluid for my 2008 Nossan Altima 3.5 VQ. It actually did quiet the cvt in my Nissan.

Your only way to get “ approved “ transmission oil from Asian car manufacturers is to go to a dealership that sells that.

Honda dealerships sell their transmission oils for a good price. Toyota dealerships do the same I believe.

One thing of note… CVT fluid from a dealership is not cheap… Nissan dealership near me wanted $26 a quart for CVT transmission oil…

Thus I went with Eneos Eco CVT for $12.50 a quart from Napa. And it did great.

The only ones that will do it will be Eneos or Idemitsu, possibly Aisin and Beck/Arnley. But only after a few years when enough Subarus using CVTF3 will be old enough to need a fluid change

There is nothing wrong with using a multi, as long as it is a dedicated CVT fluid and not an ATF/CVT combo. Those combo fluids are red (not necessarily a problem), and some people might not like to use a combo fluid anyway.

What color is the factory fluid? Find something of that color, or use one that's amber like Valvoline or Amalie.
