CV Joint Noise?

Where they "re-manufactured" cv joints? or reputable new?
2013 seems like an awful new car to need new ones at that.

I do autocross it frequently so I assume being at some steering angle + power the CVs got worn out(Im at 62K).

I am not really sure about the axles I went to a subaru shop and they sent it off to a local place which "replaces" the bearings but part of me is thinks its a refurb, I have contacted them but I am trying to figure out whats going on.

I literally only have 300 miles on these new axles, and everything was quiet when I did a test drive after install, and the drive home..etc today I notice them clicking again like the video.

Full lock (turn) + acceleration = worn CV joints very fast. I recently switched the "auto-locking" (permanent) front hubs on a vehicle of mine to manually switched to reduce CV wear. This was one tidbit I ran across when researching it.

Perhaps your hub splines are worn and were not inspected. A tightly packed joint could have masked that for a while until the grease thinned and/or was re-distributed.

MSRP for two new Subaru axles would be $799.98. Two new aftermarket axles you're looking $150-$200, so I can't blame them for giving aftermarket axles a try, they usually work just fine on Subarus.

Are you a member at NASIOC? I would ask over there.

It's interesting how at around 12 and 16 seconds the wheel/tire pops out a little bit. I'm not convinced that the axles are the problem, since you replaced them, and still have the same exact issue. I'd be curious to see what the splines in the transmission and wheel bearing look like. I know it might be hard to tell since you're driving, but does it sound like it's coming from the center of the car, or wheel area? The axles on my legacy just pop into the transmission, and are held in by some kind of snap ring, unlike some other subarus that use a roll pin to hold the axles in place. I'd be kind of curious to get under the car, and try to gently pull the axle out of the transmission to see if there is any play.

The good news is, I don't think it's the center differential since the problem also happens when driving perfectly straight. I'm no transmission expert though, so just my .02 with a grain of salt.

I can get a good price on new axles even then the shop charged me 165 per axle all labor included which was cheaper.

with the car in the air(when the new shafts were installed) there is no play at all with the new shafts, I did not look at the splines which I guess Ill have to take a look at, the sound is coming from the wheel area actually. Honestly it might just be easier for me to just replaced the wheel bearing/hub assembly then remove the axle and inspect the splines, if the shaft is ok.. but ill see.

So ultimately we are looking at Wheel bearing, splines, outer CV. The Noise completely went away with the new shaft but only temporarily. The noise happens if i'm in the parking lot moving my wheel lock to lock so that does not bode well for the spline theory.

There is no play in the wheel bearing and it spins smoothly.

I am on Nasioc (Same username) but I honestly don't waste my time posting there anymore.

For $800 a pair I'd send mine into a reputable rebuilder like Raxles to be remanufactured with new hardened joints.
