CUT OPEN: USED QUAKER STATE QS 8 OIL FILTER

Good Afternoon my fellow BITOGERS

This old oil filter is from Braapdaddy. Tried scrubbing some debris off it then brake cleaner. Didn’t do much aside from peeling paint off. Did not see a date code. Appears Purolator made. Two tears also, spotted this when pulled element out of can.

Hey Stude me and my son got to the stage in the restoration to refresh the 4.9 and have the filter and the wally recipt from 1998 when the truck was last serviced .......

Next time I’ll either use a green rough dish type pad to remove paint or dirt. So much debris and felt like it was cemented on can.

Purolator made filters used that string back in the old days.

Wide pleat spacing is always the common factor in causing pleats to tear at the pleat base due to oil flow causing them to bend.

I haven't seen a string in a C+P in a while.

It's blowing cold in No. NJ at the moment and I just serviced 2 batteries. When Mrs. Kira gets back, I'll do a third.

I want to also let everyone here know if you have some old filters new or used please feel free to send them to me. If I could help with shipping please let me know. I enjoy doing this. It’s therapy or something for me to learn from. Girlfriend says “you have some issues; I’m just glad it’s not alcoholic or drugs!”

Not too long ago you could get Quaker State branded oil filters at Menards on the cheap. They were also Purolator made and were pretty much jobber filters, but they were white not green like this old one. They since cleared them out along with Frams, I got three or four PH3600 for 2 bucks each, still have one left.

Now they have a small selection of Purolators and that’s it.

These historic filters are awesome & even the old oil is cool! Thank you both for the work. I think it cleaned up just fine. Good eye on the tear. Hope their truck project goes well.
