Media looks somewhat different ... but still some pretty wide pleat spacing at the seam. Will have to see how they do in service. Thanks for the C&P on a new one.

Very nice pictures, and thanks for cutting it open!

How much did it cost? What's the pleat count?

I agree the media looks different. Like the metal crimped seam, but the spacing is still wide around the seam, but as long as the media is durable it won't matter. If ACDelco quits making the Classic metal tube oil filters, I would consider using one of these for sure.

Still waiting for Mann to put the Evotop in a can.

It was $5.99 at AAP - Not sure what Walmart pricing would be.

Will try to count the pleats tomorrow.

I would have liked to have gotten a L14610 to compare to the white one but this was literally the only red one in town.

Frankly, I'm not impressed, sloppy paint, sloppy pleats...

$5.99? That's the Mann Hummel pricing at Advance for the Mann labeled filters made by Purolator. The Purolator Classics are $4.29. I think that filter was not priced right.

Kindly, then, show us the PERFECT 6 dollar filter for our edification.

That is what AAP.com says for my zip.

+1 paint is running and the pleat spacing is not good near the splice. That is exactly where I have seen tears in a Purolator made Motorcraft FL820S.

This is an updated Classic for $5.99. Last time I checked Walmart, they had the Classic for $3.27.

If the media is stronger and maybe the bypass tweaked for the media, the problem may be fixed.

When they offer them here, I may try one just to find out.

Does anyone know how to test the bypass valve function? Begins to open PSI and fully open PSI.

"Inventor OF the oil filter" B.S.

No... Purolator was the FIRST oil filter, they(corporation) didn't invent it.

Measure the force required to make it start to open and the force it takes to keep it wide open. Then find the area of the valve surface. Using those two measurements, you can calculate the PSI required on the valve surface to open it like you did when measuring the force required.

Thank you for the nice cut and post pictures..
If you can take some pictures of the center tube with those tiny restrictive looking little oil holes that would be great... Its nice that they say they are made in the usa and the color is nice although its a shoddy paint job on the one you listed.
I guess some will still buy this filter at $3.27 but at $5.99 almost double the price you would have to be desperate. Im Sticking with my quality Wix filters i get delivered to my shop or the fram ultra i get at wal mart. Even know i am in the engine business engines are too expensive to take any chances.

Is this a "new" bypass design for Purolator? I'm used to the metal/circular/spiral mechanism on top. Does it incorporate a "rubber" sealing interface… or just plastic or metal valve.

Paint… yeah, a few runs. Not pretty, but doesn't really matter. Media looks thicker. Spacing near crimp isn't any better. It'll be interesting to see if the "change" in media will change is performance in-use.

According to their website, they [two individuals] patented the first automotive oil filter… I'm assuming they also founded the Purolator company. Did someone else "invent" the oil filter prior and simply not patent the idea?

Well-Rock Auto does have Hastings filters that cross to this number for $2.25-$3.74, if you bought a couple, they would be under $6. Imagine Ultras from AAP with a code would be close to $6 too.

Suddenly a paintjob means everything. If i go by that logic, then the suregrip on the FU must mean that FU quality is [censored] and will blow my engine.

IMO it looks good, seam pleats does look a bit wide.
I'd guess that a wider "V" pleat could distribute the pressure more evenly and with the new media it shouldn't be a problem.
The darker media looks similar to the one used in their cartridge/spin on filters made overseas which are proven to be bullet proof.
Still have to wait for people to run em.
