Sloppy, shoddy assembly. No excuse for not deburring those inlet holes. I never have liked Purolator products and would rather have a Denso filter on my vehicle regardless of filtration efficiency, which in my opinion, doesn't matter a hoot anyway. No excuse.

I really don't think Purolator knows how to deburr holes.

Merk - if the ADBV does not seal against the holes, then deburring them may not be needed.

In one of the recent cut & posts of a BOSS base plate, the ADBV was clearly cut and likely compromised.

A clean sharp edge cuts as well or better than a burred edge. It is physically impossible for a bur on a hole edge, like seen on these filters, to cut through the adbv by itself. Try pressing on a burred hole like these with a finger, does the finger get cut off? Cut a piece of cheese with a knife, doesn't it require the blade to pass through all of the cheese to cut through it? It seems pretty obvious a small bur does not slice through much of anything. In this style adbv shown in these two recent posts, the valves haven't been damaged at all. The Bosch I cut wasn't damaged at all and has sharp holes with small burs too. Want to see sharp inlet holes right on the adbv sealing surface? Look at Fram's design.
WM has the TG4386 for $4.26 right now BTW, I ordered a couple to alternate with the Toyota and Boss, just for playing around.

I have the Boss PBL25288 on my 99 Z71. I got it with the oil change special at aap and I think after seeing this I will be changing the filter and oil at 5000 miles max.

I already offered an explanation in that thread. The second baseplate is pressed into the thicker base and possibly the tool went in too far. How do you explain the bur cutting all the way through? Or even a sharp edge without a bur? That other thread is also a different style valve and baseplate than this one. They put the round holes closer to the center where before they had oval holes farther away. Chamfered holes are better, but find a filter that has them inside. I haven't seen any yet. This filter is fine.

Why would I need to? It clearly did cut all the way through as shown in the photos and videos.

LoL ... not yet. They don't look formed with opposite pairs like the ones shown below. Must be the angle of the photo.

They are in opposite directions. I think the camera just had troubles focusing.

That's a good shot ... they look well formed.

The black stuff is ink bleed through from the back, not sure the purpose but there is an inked line on the back of the media in one area.

There are also two strips of discoloration, I am not sure what those are about, can't feel any reinforcement or anything there.

Media is pretty sturdy

This is a filter i would never ever use on anything except maybe my desk for a paper weight because the paint job is the only thing i like about this filter.

There was a Classic cut open that had the same tapping plate/adbv as the Boss shown here, only in nitrile, a few posts back.

There must be about four kinds of different Purolator baseplates now. I wonder if the Boss media comes from Germany or is made here. This is a Mercedes OE Mann fleece filter, looks like maybe same media. I put quite a bit of stock into the fact Mercedes has tested and used this kind of media for some years now. If it is the same.

I'm betting it's the same from the looks of it. Why would they have two different full synthetic media when one would do for all their full synthetic filters?
