This is from my 2001 Grand Am 2.4 Quad-4. I acquired the car midway thru the oci. Had unknown oil and about 3,000 mile on oil when I changed the oil and filter. Car has 64,xxx miles.

As this is for a GM vehicle no NPS combo valve with which to be concerned. 3k not exactly a torture test of any filter, but this NPS looks solid. Clear now from recent dissection pic posts that wavy pleats is not the sole domain of Purolator filters. Not a big deal or indication of a compromised filter anyway. Thanks for the pics.

I think it's just excess glue used to glue the media to the end caps ... not rust. This is typical to see on filters constructed like this.

Where, in the center tube or the media? If its the media near the seam, that is just excess glue that got on the media.
