The ADBV has a tapered cone that enters the element hole. The pictures show a more beat up side so I assume this is the side in question. The adbv seals one side against the baseplate, the bypass valve presses on the top of the element and seals the other side, very well, as the impression in the first picture shows. Excellent sealing on both ends without any doubt. Unlike the Bosch I pictured which had both faulty sealing and no anti drain back function. To think I was going to put this poc on my daughters car and the filter points down on her car. My car, OK, but when it is for a daughter who works hard at a job and needs to keep the car in good shape, it really ticks me off that I would be the one doing something wrong to her car, unknown to me.

These are similar construction to Honda A02 (yes media and ADBV are not the same - but the basic parts and how they are assembled are).

The ADBV and leaf spring both have lips/flanges on them, I have never cut one apart that did not show at least some indication of a witness mark where these were pressed into the fiber end cap. You can see that witness mark on this filter.

So yes, there is a seal - how complete that seal is I suppose is up for debate.


^this. One end is sitting on the bypass spring, and the other end has the ADBV on it. The media and tube are squeezed between the two. both ends were connected well and while the endcaps aren't 100% even, the seal around the tube was very strong. the glue is especially strong around the center tube on the endcaps. I noticed the endcaps not being completely even, but it certainly wasn't enough to allow a leak situation from what i could tell.


If it wasnt tight and creating a seal, I would think you could hear it loosely moving around inside the can.
 
the a/c Delco (Non Ecore) Is a very nice filter (they seem to have improved it even more) i like those filters. I also lean toward Wix.
Also the fram ultra seems to be a nicely built filter

How well does the AC Delco flow? I read here they are too restrictive.
 
Good question i saw the oil holes inside and they look pretty small just like the fram ultra and they say the ultra flows well also so who knows.
The makers of the a/c delco e-core says that design flows very well in any case they are very well constructed.
 
Ed has posted that comment on virtually every orange can I've seen posted. We will have to agree to disagree. You can clearly see the approximately 1/8" impressions from the overlap of the ADBV and bypass which creates a seal.

There is no way the orange can could make it's 95% efficiency rating squirting oil through the ends of the center tube.

By contrast the Napa Silver's combo bypass arrangement (which I also like and use) DOES allow a small amount of oil through and they are nowhere near as efficient despite much more media.
 
I hope some people can picture the adbv on the Frams as it is installed. Next week I should have a used Ultra 3614 to cut open and see for myself. The cone shaped part fits into the element hole, then the whole thing is pressed onto the baseplate. Showing adbv's crinkled up between fingers is nice to see how they are flexible, which is important, but doesn't show how they work.
 
I used to have one that showed how the fibers embedded into the bottom of the ADBV on the overlap cause the ADBV was so firmly stuck to the endcap. I will see if I can find it.

This one shows the pressure/indentation/overlap from the bypass end, but the ADBV end looks the same.

This last one if you look closely you can see some of the fibers still stuck to the overlap of the ADBV. The ADBV has to literally be ripped away from the endcap and center tube it was stuck on/in so hard.
