Cut Open : AC Delco : NEW vs. OLD

Even the replacement looks better imo. It doesn't have the metal end caps but looks solid. Wow that's an old filter. Double the weight of the newest version.
 
New one has the "combo" ADBV/bypass valve ... a design I don't want on my engines.
 
I looked them up. The PF2 was used on a lot of Ford V8 engines like the old 390s that were common in the late 60's Galaxy 500s and LTDs. The PFL400A was used on a lot of 4 cylinder and V6 engines.

Both filters do have the same threading and pitch, but they have different outside diameters and relief valve pressure settings.
 
People forget ACDelco is just a brand. For GM products, they have in recent years beefed up the filters per GM's spec. For non GM products, they are likely Champ cans painted blue.
