What is the iso-syn process of Chevron's motor oils? I purchased an oil deal at Autozone that included a 5 qt. jug of Chevron Supreme without the iso-syn label. What is the difference between a iso-syn labeled bottle of Chevron oil to a non-labeled bottle? Thank you very much for your time.

Iso-Syn is Chevron's patented hydrocracking and hydrofinishing process for producing Group II, II+, and III base oils.

While that is all true, at the last Chevron conference I attended, their use of that term was intended to start to invoke an understanding of holistically engineered products, designed for optimal balance of performance, combination of basestock and add pack.

While grp II+ and similar is a "way of life" for many modern oil formulations, it seems to be Chevron's intent for it to be implying a quality of formulation vice just some basestock used.

Nothing.

Not true. Some of Chevron's grades are not made with hydrocracked base oil, hence no Iso-Syn label.
