I'm kicking tyres on a new Cub Cadet XT2 LX46 with the 679cc EFI engine (Chinesium) here in AUS.

Just wondering if anyone has any idea why on the US CC site it looks like they've pulled the EFI option from the range and only offer Kohlers now?

Were the EFI's starting to show problems in the workshop?

Yes.

Honestly for something that doesn't see every day commercial use where fuel efficiency is a significant factor, I would avoid the EFI engines. I'd also avoid anything made by Cub Cadet or MTD in general.
