Avast did not catch it.
Luckly we had some backups for sensitive data(not connected to the machine)
still loosed about 40GB non-backed up user files...
C'est la vie...

Maybe you should look into sandboxie.

Its a sandbox program (if the name didn't give it away).

Basically its a Virtual Machine that protects your computer. I use it on my internet browsers. I also set it to delete box on close.

Its a solid program and will protect you from all forms of virus, malware, and drive by downloads. As well as day 1 exploits and fflash/java vulnerabilitys.

They had a man test a new system. Installed it and downloaded 200 known viruses, and malware. Installed them all then closed the sandbox.

Scanned the system with 3-4 different (very popular) anti viruses. Not one of the AV found anything.

They offer a free version and a paid version.

Might want to look into it.

Could save you from future frustration.

Or use HitmanPro Alert which is free:

I'm thinking because of things like that, bitcoins will be made illegal in most countries.

Thank you. I read that thread .
that machine is history already, I was just curios if anybody else experienced and (if you catch it) from what/where.

Neat software. Picked up a virus that was missed by BitDefender on my kid's laptop. On the other hand, it detected only some minor adaware issues on desktops protected by AVG.

Fortunately no CryptoWall.
