Hey ya'll,

I would like to install a Magnefine filter inline with the trans cooler on my 2000 Honda CR-V. I know they are directional, so I need to figure out which hose in the inlet and which is the oulet.

Can anyone identify the path of the fluid in the picture?

I will probably pull off one hose and have someone bump the engine to verify which side fluid squirts out of. I'll also need to verify what size of Magnefine I need. Thanks!

user 3/8" magnefine on Honda ATF cooler line. since this is an old unit, it's probably better to install on return side as many particles drop out when temperature drop at the radiator cooler. sorry I do not know which is the return line. i would start the engine and check which end have fluid come out!

After a long drive can you reach the hoses to feel if one is warmer than the other? Also I would guess the side that is closer to the lower radiator hose is the return side.

I trust the auto in your Toyota much more than the one in my Honda

One sure fire way is to slip a connection off and crank it or start it for a few seconds [a helper is best]. Oil can then /squirt/shoot/spray a LOT, so have a bucket/pan set up.
But you'll know for sure the direction.

Sounds good, that's what I'll do.

What's a realistic filter change interval for this application do you think? Will be running Maxlife + Lubegard, probably a normal mixed driving of 10k or so a year.

So does anyone know which line in the picture above is the return line ? - Thanks

FWIW - The transmission cooler return line is the on on the right(longer hose) look down front in front of the car in the figure shown .

Thanks, I confirmed this a few weeks ago and installed my filer. I put it on the outlet side (longer hose) facing the correct direction. No problems, easy install.

I always thought it was better to filter hotter oil because there would be less restriction in the filter media.
