Crush washer torque

Never once torqued a drain plug and have never stripped one or had one back out. I had 2 issues over the years. Dealer under tightened and leaked, Jiffy Lube stripped out the pan using God knows what to tighten it. They were both probably instructed to torque them
I was gonna say the same thing. I'm amazed at how many are worried about torque specs. I get 'em nice and snug by feel and move on. Never seen one back out on anything I've ever serviced and never damaged threads (but repaired several damaged by others)

In most cases I feel like a factory torque spec is only applicable if you're using the EXACT washer the factory used, which means OEM (not aftermarket copy), same exact alloy or composition, exact same thickness, diameter etc.

Anyway I'm willing to identify as a hack but I've never had a problem. I absolutely torque critical engine or transmission fasteners, but a drain plug? Nah.

I like the GM and Chrysler rubber reusable gaskets on their plugs. I wonder if the design of the others allows for a different type of plug?
I've been using old Duramax plugs when I drill holes in steel transmission pans ;)
