Crush for $1500 or sell as is / fix then sell?

In CA the selling party has to provide a passed smog. People "sell" them for money with CE on, but since they can't be registered they will stay in the seller's name. If a buyer says they will smog it but can't then the buyer is driving your car.

I did the crush thing on my T&C minivan. It needed only a new computer, but it is a money decision. I decided not to spend more money on it.

I only got $1000, to get $1500 the income has to be very low. It's interesting he will be able to buy a new Camry.

This is an example of too few people NOT being hooked up well enough-OR-Christmastime spreading the people we have too thinly-OR-the car being "worth" too little.

Somewhere on this board there should be an "out of California" buyer for that car. That person should fix it/use it/sell it, whatever.

If I could get to California cheaply I'd offer to take the car from the OP, sell it where I live and then pay him.
That'd avoid all the stumbling blocks set up to get rid of bad, old cars in California.
All that business where "the car stays in the seller's name until it passes inspection" stuff is too odd.

I'm all for any program which "culls the herd". I'm also for carp cars being shown the door.

But some less fortunate person somewhere could SO use that car. It'd sell in 2 seconds in Paterson, NJ

The $1,500 is looking better and better.

The car should be ready sometimes in Jan.

I think the seller is on the hook if the car is to be registered in CA. Actually I think it "should" be able to pass smog if you reset the computer and warm it up really well.

The problem as mentioned is the hazzle, and the "talk is cheap" factor. What I can do is after it gets to the junkyard I can post the link here, so anyone interested can go buy it off for $1500. My guess is it won't get crushed in the end and someone will buy it and fix it up, and send it down south for a 2nd life. Those V6 last a long time and the transmission is going strong.

Who pay for the $1500? I think it gets converted into carbon / HC / NOX credit so someone missing their target will buy the credit to waive their harder to work on emission.
