Is a VW/Audi 034 115 561 A filter for the same application (AHH/early AFC engine) as a Mann W719/30?

BP pressure spec = 2.5 bar

According to the Wix x-ref, NO, they are not for the same applications. They are relatively the same size & the threads are the same on both. The specs are very similar, except one has a much higher burst pressure PSI, FWIW.

I don't think so. Dimensions, applications and cross references are different.
From the 2007 AMSOIL Filter Application and Cross Reference Guide:
Mann & Hummel W71930 cross references to Amsoil EaO37.
Volkswagen 034115561A cross references to WIX51088.

The online Amsoil Master Filter Cross Reference Guide says:

W71930 MANN & HUMMEL = WIX51393
034115561A VOLKSWAGEN = WIX51088

I am not familiar with the AHH/early AFC abbreviations. Do you need to know the specific filter for a specific engine? If you need additional information, I might be able to help, but I will need additional information from you.

According to the Mann website, the Mann W719/30 (2.5 bar bypass valve) is the correct filter for the AHH. If that's not it, which is the correct one?

Tim, the filter is for a '95 Audi 80 or 90. The engine in question isn't marked as AHH or AFC, but a label says AHH. Audi modified the lubrication system beginning with late model Audi 80/90.

From 12V.org:

If your VIN ends in 8C_S_025820 or earlier, you need the smaller oil filter, which is Audi part number 034 115 561 A.
If your VIN ends in 8C_S_025821 or later, you need the larger oil filter, which is Audi part number 078 115 561 D.

The car in question has this VIN: 8C_S_000612, so it needs the earlier, smaller filter (VW/Audi 034 115 561 A).

I just need to know which Mann filter is the right one.

AHH: (before and well into '95): 034 115 561 A
late AHH ('95): 078 115 561 D
AFC('95-'97): 078 115 561 D

I found this info at the Amsoil site:
1995 AUDI 90 2.8L 6-cyl Engine Code AAH/AFC
FILTERS
Oil Filter........ EAO37 Absolute Efficiency Oil Filter = Mann W71930 = larger filter
Oil Filter........ 51393 WIX 51393 Oil Filter (S)= Mann W71930 = larger filter
Volkswagen 034115561A cross references to WIX51088 = the one you need.

The 2007 Amsoil Filter applications lists EaO37 = AAH = WIX51393 = small
The 2007 Amsoil Filter applications lists EaO39 = AFC = WIX51191 = big

However, the Mann site says:
034 115 561 A VW GROUP (AUDI/SEAT/SKODA/VW) W 719/30
which seems to be what you are asking.

I don't think the actual filter size matters in terms of fit. There's plenty space on the 12v. The crucial difference appears to be the bypass valve spec. So I "presume" the Mann W719/30 is correct, which is the filter that the guy already bought. I'll let him know about the AMSOIL and WIX option. Thanks!

I should probably commence some deep-breathing exercises before I implode.
