Took the head off my 2 stroke Lawnboy silver series mower and was surprised to see the machining cross hatch marks in the cylinder, all the way down the bore. In other words, cylinder looks brand new. Color of wall was bright silver, with no signs of glazing. Head and combustion chamber were very clean (toothbrush with some Naptha cleaned things up quickly). About a 10 year old motor, which I've had for seven years or so. Run it hard. Run it on a steady diet of left over race gas and Klotz techniplate or supertechniplate (20% Castor)usually at 30:1 Next time I take the head off will take a picture - but it may be a decade or so at this rate. 2T Lawnboy motors have a good reputation for durability, and now I see why.

Is the cylinder wall aluminum or cast iron?
It's not abnormal to still have the cross hatch pattern after even 200k miles. It is there to hold oil to lubricate the piston.
Did you open the little box that collects the oily residue from the exhaust to see what was in there. The box is accessed from the mower deck. There are four bolts that hold the cover on and the purpose is to act as a oil separator to prevent oil from dripping from the exhaust outlet.
I've run Castrol A747 in my Lawn Boy and this stuff seems to be the best lubricant in the world for 2-cycle engines but it isn't a clean burn by any measure. I'd open the drip box and clean things out once a summer.

I have never seen a 2-stroke Lawn Boy with a removable head. They usually have a one piece cylinder with integral head. What model number is this?
They last so long because they put out only 4-5 HP and have a 127cc displacment. A dirt bike engine that size can put out 50HP. Any oil will work in these engines as the demands on it are so low.

Appears to be a cast iron liner. Here is the exploded view showing the removable head. Model is 10323.

Appears to be the Toro 2-cycle engine being it has that external muffler. The oil collection chamber referred to above is in the Lawn Boy designed engines with the muffler under the deck.
