Deciding on the plan to do today. 2003 GMC Sierra 4x4. Bought new. 200,000 miles.

It's Black. Has to sit outside in Minnesota. Under a dirty tree.

Paint glows. NO swirl marks on it now.

1) Wash & Scrub with Surf City Garage Barrier Reef Wash & Wax.

2) Use Griot's Garage Buffer with SCG Beyond Clay Paint Polish.

3) (??) Meguiar's Ultimate Compound (??)

4) SCG Nano Seal Paint Sealant.

5) (??) SCG Black Edge Caranuba Wax OR Mother's FX SynWax (??)

Thoughts on which Q's will last the longest? Thanks!

Get some Zaino polymer sealant for the final step. Get the "curing" agent to mix with it and give it at least 2 coats. Longest lasting stuff I've ever found in my 67yrs. My car still beads water and shines like new after several months since application. Very easy to use.

Thanks, but I just washed it and am not running out to try to find that.

The SCG Nano Seal should be as good.

The questions are:

1) Should I use the Ultimate Compound after the Beyond Clay?

2) Use the SCG Black Edge Wax or the SynWax?

Thanks!

Skipping the Ultimate Compound, looks & feels awesome after the Beyond Clay.

Smart move!

Thanks.....

I have 2 choices to choose from to go over the Nano Seal (which I just put on).....

1) Surf City Garage Black Edge Wax (100% #1 Brazilian Caranuba)

OR

2) Mother's FX SynWax, a Synthetic Polymer

So. I just called Surf City Garage, lol.....

They said the Synthetic Polymer will last somewhat longer than
their Caranuba Wax over top of the SCG Nano Seal Sealer.

SynWax is going on over the Sealant!

Paint glows, no swirl marks.. then skip 2 and 3 altogether. You don't need 5 either since you're already waxing at step 4. I haven't used either waxes on step 5, but syns generally will outlast carnaunbas.

Sounds like you're done... Next time you get a chance to wash, use a the wax-as-u-dry.

It's pretty early to expect that protection to last all winter. I would hit it with another coat of nano seal around thanksgiving and pick up a good "wax as you dry" like Duragloss aqua wax or even eagle one. It will give your protection a little boost each and every time you wash.

Can I go with you in a 2 cars convoy to Minnesota ? My 2000 Honda S2000 needs a good detail too.

synthetic wax will last longer than carnauba. Also, since your sealing the paint you don't necessarily need to wax it. But it will bring a beautiful shine

What you can do is wait a month between steps 4 and 5. That's what I just did.
