That's odd. I can walk into my bank (US of course) and get a check issued by handing over the cash. I simply pay the fee.

Of course, I've just needed such checks ( or is that cheques? ) to pay speeding tickets.

Oh well, I was trying to be clever.

Well, what can you do? Everyone wants to pay by credit card. If you try to force consumers into a certain payment method, you'll lose customers. All you can do is factor the processing costs into the price of goods, like you do for any other overhead item. Compared to wages, processing fees are peanuts.
