I agree. I think in the full maturity of the global capitalist expansion, you merely exchange the "central committee" for the board of directors.

I think that before that occurs ..there will be more economic warfare with sophisticated corporate alliances ..pitting one sector against another for leverage. All wars are economic. It is merely a different form of casualty assessment.

Perhaps "Rollerball" and "Blade Runner" weren't that far off the mark.

Dan, Gary, I tend to agree with your points of view. When I was talking about "cooperation" in addition to "competition", what I was getting at was that our system is starting to get all out of wack. Workers are now firmly expenses to minimize. Corporations, and now our own government, move the jobs overseas, and ignore the fact that their pollution, labor laws don't come close to matching ours. Externalities as the economist like to say. Be a slacker, get married, pump out kids, and you pay no income taxes. Plan ahead, get educated, save up for marriage, save up for kids, you get taxed to death, and downsized out of a job.

But actually, as we should all be aware, true wealth has nothing to do with money, food, or power.

Whatcha mean Mark?..........that's an interesting statement.

Gary,
Interesting point. This country has always had corporate alliances and large corporations that have powerful boards of directors. I think we'll be okay so long as we have adequate anti-trust monitoring and enforcement. But this requires a lot of checks and balances and regulatory oversight, so that the regulatory agencies themselves are held accountable. I think this is still possible given that this country has plenty of watch dogs, whistle blowers, and lawyers. If a single entity steps out of line too much, they get taken down.

Microsoft was the most powerful corporation in the country at one point and it got brought down to its knees. Enron was a disaster but I think that was a blessing in disguise as it has led to reform of accounting disclosure rules that will help us in the long run.

I don't think that we'll be the targets. I think it will fall along lines of Asian power brokers and perhaps Euro power brokers. Perhaps some mixed alliance between them and our power brokers. All fighting for market share and conquest of the other. Each will form it's alliances to effectively lock out the other from a given market ..or defend a market from being captured.

When Bush Sr. talked of that "one world government" ...he spoke no language that is better understood than Wall St. They don't care who makes it ...as long as they broker it.

Thoughts along those lines ..one seamless open theater of competition. No borders ..no restrictions ..no limits.
