CRC Brake Lube - Odd Claim

I picked up some brake caliper lube - the CRC stuff in a bottle.
Contains moly, graphite, teflon [yawn], cooties, etc.

But the odd thing is it actually says it does not attack rubber, like silicone based brake lubes do!

I always thought/heard that silicone products and rubber are very good with each other.

Me too. This is a strange statement from them.

arent there lots of types of silicones? Perhhaps the more thermally/weather stable variants have a different chemistry that does not jive well with rubber formulations used in brake parts...

Yes, I think the term silicone is used loosely. It's like saying "doesn't hurt plastics"...there's a zillion versions.

That seems like deceptive marketing.

It's ironic that we have a recent thread here where Toyota owners are reporting brake rubber degradation using CRC.

And another oddity.....the one elastomer you should not use silicone grease on is.....silicone.
