The tough economic times claims another: http://www.news-journalonline.com/NewsJournalOnline/breakingnews/crane022409.htm

I guess all those $$$ I spent there during my youth didn't help out after all...

Oh, it was in the Auto General Topics forum. Who'd look there for it - they're racing oriented..

With the "search"

function and short new topics list on the left, happens all the time.

I'm pretty sure there is another thread in General too.

Take care, Bill

Well I know on this site it seems like everyone tries to keep their car exactly how it came from the factory and any change is bad, especially performance wise.

I had Crane 1.7 roller rockers on my old 5.0 Mustang and they were pretty decent quality.

But I think what really hurt thier company is that less people are racing Chevy/Ford and the more younger crowd racing imports.
I know Crane Cams makes a bunch of stuff for imports, but I don't they they are really that popular compared to other brands.

more along the lines of people compare comp and crane to the quickie mart of cams. People who want the best cam go to smaller companies who custom make cams per specifica application.

I use many of CRANE products and the fact that they shut down is concerning, but if a company has to survive they have to protect their bottom line. I am sure in the future they will reopen to fill in all the new orders from around the world.
CRANE is just hybernating for now

Does not look to be the case.

I have got a cam grinder buddy that has been absolutely swamped since the Crane shutdown. He is excited to go to the auction for some new machinery although most Crane equipment dates back to dinosaurs.

Like a lot of big companies, they gave me there spew about me having to buy from one of their established distributors so the outside salesman could make his commission. I promply thanked him, hung up the phone and ordered all my parts directly from Crower.
I found out real quick that there were other companies who wanted my money more so than Crane.

it's not always cheaper to 'buy direct'; many times they will sell it to you, but for MSRP, when we all know that the 'real' price can be had from the local speed shop or catalogs.
summit and PAW have been well known since the 70's, maybe earlier- how long ago was this?

regardless, companies come and go all the time. someone else will fill the gap, if there is actually a gap. the plain truth is, modern engines are difficult to improve upon. it's not just a matter of swapping out a cam, now the computer needs to be flashed/reprogrammed, and that's not always possible/economical.
