Craiglist is not that bad...

Around here, I've found edmunds pricing to be a better guide. When priced reasonably relative to that, it usually moves quick.
Edmunds lists it at $10200. I am asking $10800. NADA and KBB have it around $11800-$12400.

Are you trying to sell the Mountaineer? $10800 seems reasonable to me, especially if you're willing to negotiate.
But as mentioned before, shoppers on CL are on a tight budget. You might try listing on Ebay or Autotrader. I know it'll cost you listing fees but you'll probably have better luck there.

Yes, the Mounty needs to go. I know we'll take it in the hind end if we try to trade it, so I would like to sell it outright. We owe $11600 thanks to some negative equity we rolled from the wife's Jetta she had before I met her.

I've only looked at Craig's list once in my life. A fella advertised for yard tillers running or not. I had one that hadn't even been started in well over five years.....got it running & sent an e-mail to the ad. He came and bought it the same day for my asking price.

My wife bought the Tracker used a few years ago but her 36 year old son "needed" transportation so she let him drive it. This poor car has been through you know what and back. To make a long story short, it was towed here back in May after he was arrested and his gf had finished trashing the car.

We decided not to invest any money in it as it made my wife "sick" to look at it. Her son had sent several people here to look at it as we wanted to sell it for towing costs, just to get rid of it. That or scrap it out. Funny thing is that none of the guys wanted to give us the 350 dollars we were asking for it. The engine, 2.0 liter, auto tranny and drive train are worth that much! Plus, the engine only had 87K miles on it.

So I put an ad on CL, with pictures, and sold the car to a guy who drove 80 miles to get here. I'm not even going to begin to count the number of calls I got before he got here!

Someone could have sunk a grand in it and have a good running, cheap 4x4 but the guy that bought it is going to use it as a parts car as he has a 99 Chevy Tracker as well.

Don't know why I am posting this other than to make myself feel better. Anyone with a similar story?
Everyone have a Merry Christmas!

Oh yeah, now I don't have to mow around it next year!
I think the evil GF your stepson dates might be my psycho wife who has BPD. What I have is a restraining order.

I tried to sell a nice $500 car on Craigslist once. Problem was buyers in that price bracket would call and be no shows, or when they did show they expected a late model BMW for $500.

Ended up junking it for $250, just got tired of wasting my time.

The funny thing about craigslist is your price may have been too low. My wife and I list things a little low to get rid of and get little interest. We relist at a higher price and lots of interest. I am amazed when she sells things.

I listed a 10 yr old Civic with 225k miles(edmunds private) at $1500 initially with little interest. I pulled it and relisted at $2500(kbb private) and flooded with inquiries. It sold quickly.

There also exists a too low of price threshold for folks.

It's usually the right priced items sold quickly, too low or too high may raise red flag to potential buyers.

When I listed my friend's 17 years old 200k miles Accord, I looked at many Accords of the similar year, mileage and conditions so that I listed it at middle of the packs. It sold in few hours.

This I gotta hear about...

We need pictures too!

Got a call on the Mounty today and scheduled a test drive for Monday afternoon! Stay tuned...Not getting my hopes up, although the woman that called said she just totalled her Durango so it sounds like its promising...

I love CL. I have bought way more things on it than I have sold. I have only sold one car on CL and it was a 92 Cavalier that I bought from a friend at work for $150 because it needed some work. I fixed what was wrong and sold it for $400 and still made a profit.

I like Weber charcoal and gas grills and have bought most of the ones I have off of CL.

I bought two new 30lb sealed tanks of R134a refrigerant off of CL this summer for $199 each which was $50 cheaper than anyone else around here.

I had a guy that was advertising on CL to build me a nice chicken coop which was way cheaper than anything else sold locally that wasn't as nice. I also bought all of my chickens off of CL. I could go on and on.

Did I say I love CL.

I too like Craigslist. One thing I don't like about it is when I shop for used tires. Around here, people think they're selling gold. Many of the tires are priced 80% to 100% of the price that TireRack has.

My absolute best Craigslist find was advertised as a "Yamaha Stack Stereo System - $250 (OBO)", followed by a very grainy cell phone camera image of what appeared to be 6 black boxes with dials, etc. Location was just about a mile from our home in OR.

The seller was a USAF Lt. Colonel who had purchased the system "...in the '80's when in Japan." All the cartons (which included all the original packaging material, 4 remote controls, manuals, etc.) had multiple Govt. transportation stickers, he indicated the system had been "...to the Gulf, twice!" and hadn't been unpacked for at least 8 years.

Much to my delight it was basically all the top of the line Yamaha components, pre-amp, 350 RMS per channel power amp, FM/AM tuner, a dual-deck Dolby HX-Pro cassette, 6-disk CD player & Graphic equalizer.

The CD player wouldn't load so he asked me if I'd go $225 for the system, including all the RCA Monster Cables to go with it!

I'm listening to it now and it truly sounds just great. The amp alone occasionally shows up on a very high-end website for $1K+!

Craigslist is a good resource for wheels and tires, especially studded/studless snows in the Spring!

Cheers!

In a my experience on craigslist has been pretty good so far. I found this guy does or you undercoating [removed non-sponsor link] uses something called fluid film, did a great job and I like the product so far. Like anything, it's buyer beware.

Let me guess...you're the owner of this business?

About 10 years ago, I bought some guys collection of 300 CDs for $500. I pulled out about 100 that I liked, put the 200 that were left back on on CL for $500, and sold them the next day. Can't beat a deal like that.

Craigslist is definitely handy, provided you're good at picking out the worthwhile stuff from the [censored]. Heck, I bought my Jeep off Craigslist.
